Clue/Question: When Gideon Sundback showed how his zipper worked, people were – – –

Answer: “FASTEN–ATED“
(Yes, yes. It is a real groaner of a pun. And, that’s why we love it! The zipper really did revolutionize clothing, of all kinds. And, today they are so ubiquitous. I’m certainly no engineer, but I was thinking that the semi forerunner of the zipper – the hook and eye closure – is also the basis of Velcro. The biggest differences being that Velcro doesn’t use metal – they use Nylon – and there are hundreds of these tiny hooks and eyes, or loops.
There were no new clue words today. Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “udefg” before. Besides, there’s no hiding “fudge” from a chocolate lover. The answer letter layout was a tantalizing ten letter jumble. I thought it was nicely cryptic. The quotation marks and the hyphen were my biggest clues.
Another fine period piece cartoon from our buddy. Between 1914 – 1917. He drew a very nice likeness of Mr. Sundback. When you actually stop, and watch how zippers work, they really are fascinating.
Covid-19 seems to be making a strong comeback, so please take all the necessary precautions, folks. Practice “social distancing”. Wear the masks, when in public places. And, wash your hands frequently. Don’t touch your face until you’ve done so. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
