Sunday Cryptoquote Spoiler – 10/18/20

LIVY - Definition and synonyms of Livy in the English dictionary

A person under the firm persuasion that he can command resources virtually has them.”   —   Livy

(Guess what?  We have also seen this Livy quotation before!  But, at least this one goes back to 10/18/09.  That is exactly eleven years ago!  We’ve got to get to the bottom of who is behind these!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  FOR WHAT ITS WORTH

(FWIW, it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen a continuation answer to the Jumble.  One like this at least.  But, I was able to pick up on it rather quickly.  It’s a fine pun.  I won’t even call it stinky, though I know others probably will.

All familiar old friend clue words again today.  Nothing to roust ralis95 about.  Five of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “saripn” in the past.  The answer letter layout was a fantastic fifteen letter jumble.  Nothing obvious about it.

Admirable cartoon showing an older man and woman examining a Chinese temple dog.  They’re also know as Chinese Foo Dogs, or Foo Lions.  I think they spanned a number of dynasties, and they also spread to other Asian countries.  They are fairly common, and of course there are a good number of counterfeit, and modern reproductions of them floating around.  Best to see an expert.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The Old England 老英格蘭 at Cing Jing, Taiwan | Darren Bloggie 達人的部落格 - Singapore Lifestyle Blog

Reputation is often got without merit and lost without fault.”   —   English Proverb

(I guess this is THE only English Proverb out there to quote, as they have used this two other times in the not so distant past.  We saw it on 01/13/18 AND 04/14/20!  I knew it sounded familiar.  Something strange is going on over at the Cryptoquote.  They are relying on a ton of re-runs.  Still no closer to finding someone to complain to.  That site I posted a few days ago was a red herring.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The Nazi Science That Fed the Apollo 11 Moon Landing | Time

Answer:  SKYROCKET

(A terrific stinky pun!  Not exactly a moonshot, but I thought it took flight.  I think most of us got its thrust.  Hoyt seems to be firing on all cylinders lately.  And, we all know our guys have the right stuff.

None of the clue words are new.  We’ve seen ’em all before.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “torese” in the past.  I had a little trouble coming up with “yonder”.  There are only sixteen words on the ralis95 world famous clue word database that begin with Y, so considering a word that starts with Y did not burst any synapses right off the bat.  At least I didn’t have to back into it.  The answer letter layout was another fine jumble.

The cartoon did a great job of propelling the puzzle along.  Yes, it did have boosters, but I did not consider them unnecessary bonus clues.  Overall, I would say that this Jumble was a blast!  Be well and do well, friends.)   —   YUR
