“In recognizing the humanity of our fellow beings, we pay ourselves the highest tribute.” — Thurgood Marshall
(And, therein lies the problem with too many people, to this day. Through bias and ignorance, they don’t recognize the humanity in those who don’t look . . . just like them. They see others as somehow inferior. This is both sad and dangerous, for all of us. For years I thought that we – as a nation – were making pretty good progress in race relations, but there was always that undercurrent of hatred mixed with fear. It started coming back to the surface with the election of Barack Obama, from those whose bias/hatred didn’t like seeing a Black man sitting in the White House. Things got much much worse with the election of a man whose primary campaign tactic, and now “leadership” strategy, was/is in appealing to the small-minded and uncharitable, by raising irrational doubts and fears. We need to ignore and replace this man, and remember the words of one of our Founding Fathers, John Dickinson: “Then join hand in hand, brave Americans all! By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall.”
This appears to be the very first quote from our country’s very first African-American Supreme Court justice, Thurgood Marshall. It’s about time, don’t you think? Welcome to the Cryptoquote Club, sir. Be well and do good, friends. And, reject racial bigotry.) — YUR

Unfortunately, the racial issue in the USA is increasingly notorious. When it was thought that it could be overcome over the years, it was rather increased with the arrival of Trump to power. In short, a big mess that will be seen more with these elections.

Unc, are you saying that John Dickinson is the one who coined the phrase “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” ?
I think some of us believe we got Donald in reaction to having Barack.
Many black Americans my age were surprised that he actually achieved election. Remember, even the Noble Committee gave him the Peace Prize for no other reason than winning the election.
Some of us got surprised; some of us got frightened. When the Universe turns upside-down, somebody must correct it.
Donald became the correction.
Versions of the saying go back to ancient times, but the version I posted has been attributed to John Dickinson, one of our Founding Fathers, and not the current 60 Minutes correspondent.

*The 2009 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to United States President Barack Obama for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people”* NOT merely for being elected.

Yes. It was something unprecedented in the elections. You can still savor that triumph despite the years that have passed.
Okay !
“extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people”: That’s the part of Barack’s award I didn’t hear cited by the press.
Recall that within the week of Donald’s inauguration, he was looking around and wondering if someone was recommending him for the Peace Prize ?
I mean, really ?
Was he not aware of the nasty campaign he ran against Hillary ?
LOL!
You know, I don’t think that he’s ever been aware that he’s doing anything wrong. I don’t think he ever learned right from wrong, lwc.

Maybe he and his father were, and are, the embodiment of Gordon Gecko’s: “Greed is good !”
Fortunately, it didn’t effect all of Fred’s children, lwc. Donald seems to have been the bad seed. Earlier you referred to him as “the correction”. I would say that he’s the IN-CORRECTION! — YUR
