We knew she was old, and we knew she was sick, but we all thought she would – somehow – hang on! To think that Trump could get a third conservative crony on the bench is terrifying. The way the Republican majority Senate refused to hold hearings on Merrick Garland, when they had nearly 8 months to do so, but now they plan to rush whatever crony Trump nominates, is beyond the pale. 2020 has been a complete disaster, so far. Our only saving grace will be for Trump to lose in November, and for the Democrats to regain the Senate.
I’m sure that it will all come down to the so-called battleground states again. States that had been traditionally blue/democratic went to Trump by narrow popular vote margins back in 2016. Those states are Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida. The first three states Trump won by .7% or less of the popular vote. Michigan by only .3%! And, Trump took Florida by only 1.2%.
If Trump had lost those three closest states there would have been an electoral swing of 46 votes, dropping Trump from 306 electorals to 260, and raising Hillary from 232 to 278. Enough for her to have won. I think Florida is still in play, and they have 29 electoral votes. Had those too gone to Hillary she would have won 307 to 231.
I’m just hoping that they all have seen the damage that Trump has done, and come back to the light. Both Ohio and North Carolina could conceivably vote blue this time. I’m sure that Biden will concentrate on these seven states. We can’t afford to take anything for granted though!
And a sad farewell to RBG.

Trump must lose, or there is something very wrong about democracy.
