South Carolina football: Lou Holtz recalls Hurricane Dennis | Charlotte Observer

The man who complains about the way the ball bounces is likely the one who dropped it.”   —   Lou Holtz

Sunday Jumble Spoiler – 09/13/20

Come join us for Social Knitting | Hemstitched Heirlooms

Visual Description:  Yammerin’ about yarn.

HNLIFC  =  FLINCH,  SLODHU  =  SHOULD,  RAAEKT  =  KARATE,  DULRYE  =  RUDELY,  CILAPD  =  PLACID,  RITMOP  =  IMPORT   —   Giving us:  FLNSHOKTELYACIIMT

Clue/Question:  Three generations knew how to make sweaters by hand in this – – –

Pre-Answer:  Two Words  “(7-letters)-(4-letters)”  (6-letters)

Knitting with the Ladies

Answer:  CLOTHESKNIT FAMILY

(I struggled some with this one, and I didn’t really solve it myself, so I didn’t have anything clever to impart.  It seems like a waste of my time half the time anyway.  So, the heck with it.

As mentioned before, “rudely” came up as new, but as it turned out it was used once before on an earlier Sunday Jumble.  Ralis95 knows about it now.  Five of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “cilapd” in the past.  None of the six jumbles stumped me.  But, the seventeen letter jumble that made up the answer letter layout did stump me.  I started out thinking the first word was FASHION.  Then, it looks like I actually had CLOSELY-KNIT, but it left me with FHTAIM.  Since I wasn’t feeling it, I gave it over to my daughter.  I guess she saw KNIT FAMILY, which left her with CETOHSL.  From there she saw CLOTHES.  Good one.

Nice cartoon of a warm and cozy family scene.  Heart warming.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Mike Newton Artist—Voltaire 1694-1778

One merit of poetry few persons will deny:  it says more, and in fewer words than prose.”   —   Voltaire

(Yeah, sure.  If you have a magic decoder ring.  For me, most poetry is an inside joke.  And, I’m always looking in from the outside.  But, at least with today’s Jumble and Cryptoquote we hit FEW, FEWER, and FEWEST.  That’s gotta count . . . for absolutely nothing!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  FIT THE PROFILE

(I don’t know, but I don’t think you could call this pun a groaner.  It’s definitely not stinky.  If there is such a thing as a legitimate acceptable pun then today’s Jumble would probably qualify.

Who woke up David L. Hoyt???  All of a sudden he’s giving us new clue words left and right.  Yesterday it was “local”, and today he’s given us “nonfat”!  The only jumble that gave me any trouble.  You know me and those silly compound words.  I would of thought that it would’ve been hyphenated.  Whatever.  It looks like some new work for our pal ralis95.  His world famous clue word database continues to grow!  All of the jumbles are coming up as new.  The answer letter layout was a tight ten letter jumble.  Before reading the cartoon, and the clue/question, I was pretty sure the three letter word was going to be OFF.  But, with the great cartoon, and the clue/question, I did a quick about face.

Today’s cartoon characters look a little too specific, including the guy in profile.  I’m guessing that they’re cartoonist friends of Jeff’s.  We may never know though.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Boy!  They pegged this one right!  Nothing but ludicrous scare tactics and outright lies.  So sad that they think so little of their supporters.
