Clue/Question: The winner of the dog bone eating contest was the – – –

Answer: “CHOMPION“
(It wasn’t Rover? Too soon? Maybe it was Spot, or Duke, or Butch, or Boone! No, it was Scout! So, if this is a stinky pun, would you say it’s more of a wet dog stink, or your basic dog breath stink? My Wally might be the champ of dog breath stink. My daughter once – accurately – quipped: Wally, your breath smells like Chinatown! If you frequent a Chinatown you’d recognize the unique aroma of garbage and fish. Yes, it stinks, but we keep going back. But, you know you can never go wrong when your Jumble pun involves man’s best friend!
All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends. Three of the jumbles came up as new, for me. But, we’ve definitely seen “nooni” before. Not to be confused with a nooner! The jumble for “method” gave me some pause, but I almost didn’t get “hubcap” I kept looking for something with a PH, or a CH. After toying with CUP, I switched to CAP, and saw the compound word. The answer letter layout was a great eight letter jumble. Very cryptic. But, the quotation marks were a big hint.
Love the cartoon. Scout looks like some kind of hound dog. It looks like the Westy and the Mini-Dobie weren’t huge challengers. I like Jeff’s little take off on the “Nathan’s Famous” event. A very satisfying and silly Jumble. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
