Frasi di Friedrich Schiller

The jest loses its point when he who makes it is the first to laugh.”   —   Johann Friedrich von Schiller

(Some comedians laugh at their jokes all the time.  It’s almost as if they feel they have to cue their audience.  While others deliver their quips with classic deadpan.  The best at deadpan humor was/is Steven Wright!  His jokes were never obvious.  You had to think to get them.  And, he had the patience to wait for you to get them.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Fold-Pak 16WHPAGODM 16 oz. Pagoda Chinese / Asian Paper Take-Out Container with Wire Handle - 100/Pack

Visual Description:  Hunan Heartburn?

TINYU  =  UNITY,  IGBEE  =  BEIGE,  DLIFED  =  FIDDLE,  GTYIZL  =  GLITZY   —   Giving us:  UNEGFIEGLT

Clue/Question:  He had no proof that the food was giving him indigestion, but he did have a – – –

Celebrating the no-frills satisfaction of Chinese takeout - [225]

Answer:  GUT FEELING

(This is a wonderful classic stinky pun.  But, somehow it also seems fresh.  I can’t recall the last time they used a GUT, or even a GUTS, pun.  But, I can definitely relate to this poor guy.  I’ve never gotten sick from eating Chinese, but I did get violently ill once when we ordered some Italian take-out.  I was the only one to get sick, so I suspect it was from one of the stuffed mushrooms that many of us ate that night.  I think that one of them may have been a toadstool.  Uncomfortable bloating, with probably the most intense nausea I’ve ever experienced.  Before the nausea was unbearable I tried to lie down, but the bed started spinning.  Round one came and went, and I tried again to lie down, but the spinning returned.  Rounds two and three came in quick succession, and with incredible force.  My stomach/system REALLY wanted that poison out of me!  The next day I notified the restaurant manager, so they could do a quality check, to hopefully avoid sickening more customers.  He was very apologetic and thanked me for alerting him.  And, probably for not threatening to sue!  Within a year that restaurant closed.

No new clue words today.  Two of the jumbles came up as new, but we’ve definitely seen “tinyu” and “dlifed” in the past.  They all came to me instantly this morning.  The answer letter layout was a terrific ten letter jumble.  Without the great clue/question, and superior cartoon depiction, this might have been a tough jumble to unscramble.

Great kitchen cartoon.  The plate, utensils and containers on the table look unusually small though.  But, I guess they wanted the focus more on the now ailing diner.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Landmark Opinions on Women's Rights - HISTORY

My mother told me to be a lady.  And for her, that meant be your own person, be independent.”  —   Ruth Bader Ginsburg

(The “Notorious RBG”!  May she rest in peace.  Certain republican senators, who are up for re-election in November, are at risk of losing support if they vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett.  Cory Gardner and Martha McSally could lose support if they confirm.  So, they could conceivably join Murkowski and Collins in voting No.  Collins is up for re-election, but Murkowski isn’t.   So, all you Maine, Colorado and Arizona voters let those senators know that you’ve got your eye on them!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Clue/Question:  The iguana bar was popular and crowded with – – –

National Weather Service issues alert for falling iguanas | TheHill

Answer:  LOUNGE LIZARDS

(A wonderfully stinky pun!  I think they do probably smell a bit.  I know you should probably wash your hands after handling them, because they can carry Salmonella.  They are fascinating creatures, but not the cuddliest of pets.

Well, hello DOLLY Yes, David L. Hoyt has given us a brand new clue word.  Our pal, ralis95, will have to update his world famous clue word database once again.  All four of the jumbles appear to be new also.  The answer letter layout was a thrilling thirteen letter jumble.  Nicely cryptic.  I saw LIZARDS first, then quickly figured out LOUNGE.

Very amusing animal cartoon.  Jeff has a great sense of humor.  I never knew that iguanas liked music!  LOL!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Thomas Erskine (1750-1823), 1st Baron Drawing by Mary Evans Picture Library

That which is called firmness in a king is called obstinacy in a donkey.”   —   Lord Erskine

(It’s hard to say which Lord Erskine said this, as Wikipedia has at least six of them.  But, most likely this came from Thomas Erskine, of the later 18th – early 19th Century.  He seems to be the most political of the bunch.   The first part was easy, but then the solve got harder!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Clue/Question:  When the larger fruit seller set up next door, the smaller fruit seller didn’t – – –

The Exotic Fruits of Southeast Asia | Vivacious Veggie

Answer:  STAND A CHANCE

(This little couple just needs to re-brand themselves, to appeal to the younger, hipper clientele.  Something like The Organic Fruit Station, or Farm-to-Table Fruits, or Sal’s Non-Ecoli Kiosk.  Okay, you might need a slightly bigger sign.  But, just work in some trendier buzz words.  If you bull it . . . they will come.

Nope to the new clue word today.  Seen ’em all before.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, but we have seen “dosted” prior to today.  The answer letter layout was a twinkling twelve letter jumble.  I figured on STAND right off the bat, and I kinda saw the word CHANCE in it.  But, other than that . . .

Fine fruit stand cartoon.  The big booth clearly has a broader selection of fruit, but the little guy can boast Locally Grown.  But, like his female partner suggested, a different location would probably be optimal.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

So live that you wouldn’t be ashamed to sell the family parrot to the town gossip.”   —   Will Rogers

(Easier said than done.  Everybody’s got opinions.  And, where else would you be as free to express them than at home, with your family?  Just don’t get too crazy!  The author line made this too obvious for me.  Too bad.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

audioBoom / Timmy's painting of Venice the Grand Canal | Venice painting, Grand canal, Painting

Visual Description:  Down the Grand Canal.

YAHONW  =  ANYHOW,  DLSAMI  =  DISMAL,  SSSERT  =  STRESS,  TCOLAB  =  COBALT,  FTUYSF  =  STUFFY,  TARROO  =  ORATOR   —   Giving us:  AHDMASTEOBLTFOO

Clue/Question:  When it came to passengers for the Venice gondolas, there were – – –

Pre-Answer:  Three Words  (9-letters)  (2-letters)  (4-letters)

Venice. Grand canal, gondola. A135 - Kavolina - Paintings & Prints, Buildings & Architecture, City, Cities - ArtPal

Answer:  BOATLOADS OF THEM

(A picturesque stinky pun.  Not as stinky as Venice in July, as I’d imagine.  When I was there in April of 1990 it was still cool, and a little rainy.  So, I don’t really know what it’s like in the hotter summer months.  Just that canals, in general, can tend to get a little funky then.

Hoyt used all familiar, old friend clue words today.  Five of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “tarroo” before.  I thought that “yahonw” was a sneaky little jumble.  It took a couple of looks.  The answer letter layout was a fabulous fifteen letter jumble.  But, the final answer slots quickly led me to OF THEM.  And, from there  BOATLOADS became readily apparent.

Typically great Jeff Knurek destination cartoon.  For accuracy, he made the kids completely oblivious to their experience, as they are more interested in their cell phones than the sights.  Makes me kinda glad that I’m not that age.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Like the 'Dogs Playing Poker' Painting But With Presidents. - Daily Candid News

Answer:  KNEW BETTOR

(An old reliable stinky pun!  I know we’ve seen other better/bettor puns in the past.  I suppose this one could be a new wrinkle on one of them.

It looks like we have a new clue word today, in “kneed”!  Our good friend, ralis95, is going to have to update his world famous clue word database again!  All of today’s jumbles came up as new for me.  The only one to give me pause was “denke”.  We don’t get a whole lot of verb clue words.   The answer letter layout was a terrific ten letter jumble, but the quotation marks, and the clue/question, made for an easy solve.

Fun poker buddies cartoon.  Where’s the beer and the chips?  When is Murray the cop getting there?  LOL.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
