South America - Lessons - Tes Teach

Visual Description:  Avoiding the Drake Passage around Cape Horn.

NTIJO  =  JOINT,  SYKAH  =  SHAKY,  TBRITE  =  BITTER,  PURTAB  =  ABRUPT   —   Giving us:  INTSHKITRAT

Clue/Question:  To name the body of water Magellan traveled through, she needed to – – –

CAPE HORN: CAPE HORN: HOW A TRADING MONOPO HOW A TRADING MONOPOLY ...

Answer:  THINK STRAIT

(An excellent stinky pun!  And, it’s both a nice history lesson and a geography lesson.  Most of us are so far removed from school that we probably need a refresher course, as to where it is.  It’s way down near the bottom of Chile and Argentina, and it cuts through more mainland Chile and Tierra del Fuego, which is an archipelago, that is part Chilean and part Argentinian.  The strait provided a somewhat safer way to get from the Atlantic to the Pacific, than taking the Drake Passage.

There were no new clue words today.  However, all of the jumbles did come up as new.  No stumpers, for me today.  The answer letter layout was a cryptic eleven letter jumble.  If you had forgotten your history/geography lessons then you might have struggled some to get the final answer.

Fine classroom cartoon.  It looks like it’s likely a high school class, but that’s just my guess.  I like the map.  Jeff even threw in Las Malvinas, better known to English speakers as the Falkland Islands.  Fun Jumble!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Visual Description:  City Hall signing.

EUNOC  =  OUNCE,  VGLAE  =  GAVEL,  YOKEND  =  DONKEY,  DLEAPD  =  PADDLE   —   Giving us:  OEGEDODD

Clue/Question:  When she signed her property over to become a park, they thanked her for her – – –

Readers Write: Racial covenants bill, City Hall security, PolyMet ...

Answer:  GOOD DEED

(Cute, stinky pun.  Great way to ease in to the work week.  I’m a lot tired, so I’m just going to keep this short.

No new clue words today.  But, all of today’s jumbles appear to be new.  The answer letter layout was a great eight letter jumble.  The final answer just kind of jumped out at me though.

Nice civic minded cartoon.  Maybe that’s the park we’ve seen in a number of recent Jumbles.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Clue/Question:  She hung up her gold medals before the others because she wanted to put – – –

Pre-Answer:  Three Words  (5-letters)  (6-letters)  (5-letters)

U.S. Women's Foil Team Earns World No. 1 Ranking For First Time Ever

Answer:  FIRST THINGS FIRST

(Excellent Jumble pun!  But, of course we won’t be seeing any Olympics this year.  Nope!  The COV-19/Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic has put the kibosh on that, for this year.  Hopefully, we will be able to have them in 2021.

Perhaps we’ve seen it on some previous Sunday, but the word “softly” is coming up as a new clue word.  I sent an email to ralis95, so he can update his world famous database.  Five of the jumbles appear to be new, but we’ve definitely seen “slivha” sometime in the past.  They all came to me pretty quickly.  The answer letter layout was a super sixteen letter jumble.  I first tried FINISH for the middle word, but it used two of the three I’s!  I did see FIRST though.  GTTRS was just nonsense.  Then, I thought the middle word might be STRING, which brought me back to FIRST.  But, the remaining letters gave me SHIFT.  FIRST STRING SHIFT didn’t make any sense, in this context.  Finally, I saw THINGS, which gave me the proper final answer.

Fine cartoon of an Olympic athlete.  It’s hard to say what sport is her specialty.  The hair up made me think gymnastics, but she could also be an ice skater, or track athlete.  Or, maybe she’s a fencer!  Not enough info to make an educated guess.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

THINK TWICE BEFORE PLACING GIRLS ON CO-ED TEAMS | Kids and Sports

Answer:  GLOVES ON HAND

(Gotta love this Jumble!  It’s both seasonally appropriate and politically correct.  I don’t think I have to explain the pun aspect of this answer to anyone.  Do I?

There are no new clue words today.  But, surprisingly, only one new jumble, as we’ve definitely seen “viwea”, “nhiynw” and “gmoysg” in the past.  Maybe that’s why I had no trouble with any of them.  The answer letter layout was a beautifully cryptic twelve letter jumble.  The final answer letter slots were my biggest clue . . . right off the bat.

Great youth baseball cartoon.  It sorta has a “Bad News Bears” or “The Sandlot” vibe to it.  A great Jumble for a Saturday . . . in the park.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Posts – William Murray Golf

Answer:  COURSE OF EVENTS

(Now, this one is worthy of the designation “stinky pun”!  The last two Jumbles were decidedly lukewarm, at best.   It’s nice to see the guys end the week on an up note.

There were no new clue words today.  Three of the jumbles are coming up as new, with “srivo” having definitely been used before.  I started writing out NURT, before I realized that I was running out of squares for NURTURE.  You know me, and those cheap-ass UN words!  The answer letter layout was an impressive twelve letter jumble.  I think having the OF being a given helped me get the final answer quickly.

Fun golf cartoon!  Our guys look jazzed.  Their ladies look jazzed.  I was going to go with a Johnny Carson quip that was a response to a famous golfer’s wife, but I don’t know.  It’s a little blue.  I guess if I leave out what she said – the setup – it should be okay.  He – allegedly – said:  That must make his putter flutter.  I’ll leave the setup to your imaginations.  Be well and do well, friends.)   —   YUR
