Clue/Question: Karl Benz helped pioneer internal combustion vehicles thanks to his – – –
Answer: “ENGINE–NEW–ITY“
(Fantastic stinky pun! German engineering! There’s nothing else like it! At least that’s how a popular tagline goes . . . or, went? Does Mercedes still use it? I know some group might have put the kibosh on it, making it “politically incorrect”. I actually worked with an older gentleman, twenty years ago . . . or so, who swore he would never buy a Mercedes, because of their role in Hitler’s Germany. I thought that a tad extreme, but to each their own.
No new clue words today. But, three out of the four jumbles appear to be new. Only “kaylew” has definitely been used before. I got all the words immediately. The answer letter layout was a nicely cryptic twelve letter jumble. But, I was able to pick up on the pun almost instantly, thanks to the cartoon’s dialog, the clue/question, and the quotation marks.
The cartoon is a wonderful rendition of a great moment in history. The automobile is very accurate. The first one was actually a kind of motorized tricycle! The internal combustion engine had been around for about 80 years, or so, but Benz was the first to build a motorized carriage. If he hadn’t done it someone else likely would have. But, ya gotta wonder how much longer that might’ve taken. A fantastic Friday Jumble! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
