I can excuse everything but boredom.  Boring people don’t have to stay that way.”   —   Hedy Lamarr

(Ah!  Brains and beauty!  Back in the day she was called a Bombshell, but her advances in communication technology led to the developments of Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth technologies.  Of course, the good ol’ boys in the military – during WWII – dismissed her idea of “frequency hopping”, but they did finally utilize it sometime in the 1960s.  She wasn’t formally acknowledged for her contributions until 1997, but by then she was an 82 year old recluse.  Thankfully, we’re getting better about acknowledging all forms of genius, regardless of sex, race and creed.  For those “good ol’ boys” . . . Times Up!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I try to learn something new every day, especially since I forget 2 old things every day. I never knew much about Hedy Lamarr outside of seeing her in old movies on TCM. I looked up a few bio web sites on her. Quite an interesting life.

    Gary,
Maybe we should be acknowledging her birthday, each November 9th. Her innovation has had a huge effect on the world! If we can have a National _ _ _ _ Day, just about every single day, we should be able to recognize game changers on their birthdays. Do we really need National Pancake Day, National Pistachio Day, etc., etc.???

Hedy Lamar was definitely a smart chick. You think she would have qualified as a Hidden Figure like the ladies in the movie of the same name ?

On a trip to London, Louis B Mayer offered her $125/week. She turned it down, booked a trip on the ship taking him back to New York, where she convinced him to pay her $500/week.

Just think how great she could have been as a Hollywood agent. Rather than become a famous actress, she had the smarts to be a Hollywood mogul and take Louis B Mayer’s job.
