“A little government and a little luck are necessary in life, but only a fool trusts either of them.” — P.J. O’Rourke
(Nowadays, it seems we have too much government and not enough luck. I remember when the Republicans used to run on the idea of a smaller Federal Government. Then George W. Bush came along! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

The Republican Party used to be the “Party of Lincoln”.
But, much of our media don’t seem to remember, or maybe they weren’t around during the late 1960s, when President Johnson, a white Southerner, succeeded in passing the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.
Many of the most prominent Dixiecrats of the Democrat Party defected and ran over to the Republican Party who welcomed them with open arms and they soon took over the Party and changed its agenda to counter the agenda that Johnson began.
If Lincoln is looking down, he may not recognize his Party.
Be careful there, lwc. Some might construe that you’re saying that the Republican party is now inherently racist! A claim that many Democrats are fond to make. — YUR
