(Maybe only the Jumbles ring as repeats to me?!!! I’m pretty sure we’ve had this pun sometime before. And, changing it from “HIM” to “HER” doesn’t earn a pass. I must say, the guys like to play with weigh! Made for a good stinky pun though.
We have yet another new clue word today, in “soften”! It is a bit of a surprise, as it is a very common word. I guess Hoyt is trying to keep ralis95 busy, updating his world famous clue word database. All of today’s jumbles appear to be new. The answer letter layout was an excellent twelve letter jumble. Nothing about it is obvious.
Great hardware store cartoon! If the lady is so concerned about her weight, why is she looking for one that saves her a little effort? An app! Maybe she should look into cutlery that comes with an app??? Did anyone else notice the *salesperson* – look, I’m being “politically correct”! – looks a lot like Will Shortz?! Maybe the New York Times Crossword doesn’t pay all that much, and he needs to moonlight at an Ace Hardware! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

The final solution did ring a bell with me too but maybe it is just the word WEIGH which is used often. Today it was used in one of its “real” meanings as opposed to subbing for WAY. Sigh, we expect the first local snow tomorrow that may even accumulate a little. No surprise as the first week in November is the usual begin time for some snow in this area between Syracuse and Utica.
You’re in “lake effect” country? I know they tend to get some of the most snow in the state. During the summer about 50 years ago, my family would stop in Rome, NY, on our way up to Fourth Lake, to eat at an Italian Restaurant called The Savoy. Have you ever eaten there, Gary? — YUR
Oh, yeah. I was born and mostly raised in Rome, NY and when the blizzard of 1966 hit Rome with 40 inches of snow the city was paralyzed for almost a full week. I am not sure when the “LES” (Lake Effect Snow) term came into being but it is common in the winter weather reports now. The Savoy still is a landmark in Rome. I have eaten there from time to time (I live about 15 miles from Rome now).
Yeah, I was 8 years old – living in Rochester – when that hit, and it seemed like the most snow ever! Of course, 8 year olds aren’t very tall, so I guess it was – partly – a matter of perspective. Nice to hear that The Savoy is still doing well. Maybe, someday I’ll have an excuse to be up that way, so I can relive a bit of my childhood. Thanks, Gary. — YUR
