(Delayed) Sunday Cryptoquote Spoiler – 10/13/19

When it comes to cars, only two varieties of people are possible – cowards and fools.”   —   Russell Baker

(I didn’t get the quote, but at least I was able to solve the puzzle!  Okay, I guess he’s referring to the types of drivers.  And, he’s being relatively polite.  Some timid souls creep along, usually in the wrong damn lane!  While fools – like me – are forced to pass them on the right.  I guess I’m with Sammy Hagar.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  GET WITH THE PROGRAM

(An excellent historic, and nerdy, pun!  But, nowadays nerdy folk rule the world.  Cool cats – like me – just live in it.  But, just look at the leaps and bounds they’ve made in computing in under 40 years!  It just boggles the mind.  At least old minds like mine!

On this day in Jumble history there were no new clue words!  However, four of the six jumbles did come up as new.  Only “cugorh” and “fhirtt” have definitely been used before.  The answer letter layout was a magnificent seventeen letter jumble.  It probably took me a couple of minutes to come up with the final answer.  I did it Sunday night, but I was a little bummed/in shock from hitting a deer on my way back from my wife’s cousin’s place.  No one got hurt – except the deer – and the car was driveable, but it was pretty traumatic.  I clipped it on its hind quarters, so only the front driver’s side was effected.  It was like an explosion!  I couldn’t open the driver’s side door, so I couldn’t go back to see if she lived or died, and the traffic was still fairly heavy.  The only other thing I’ve ever hit was an opossum, about 30 years ago.  That I definitely killed.  Unless it was just playing possum!

The cartoon is a fine depiction of mid-80’s life.  The clothes, the haircuts, the floppy discs, and the ancient unit.  And, the clunky handheld video camera was a great touch.  Fine Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The real test of golf and in life is not staying out of the rough, but getting out after we are in.”   —   Source Obscure

(Real tall rough can be tough, but I always had a harder time getting out of some of those sand traps!  Especially, if you’re up close to the bunker’s lip!  If you’re just far enough away from it, and you’re handy with a wedge, you can usually get out.  But, you usually sacrifice some distance too, which results in an additional stroke, or so.  But, the point of the quote is to not let life’s problems get you down.  You’ve got to dust yourself off, and get on with life.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Clue/Question:  If lawmakers worked together, they could celebrate with a – – –

Answer:  POLITICAL PARTY

(If only they would/could work together!  It seems that today, if you try to, or you once did, reach across the aisle, you catch as much flack from members of your own party as from the opposition party.  And, how stupid is that?!?!  Using “political correctness” to make political hay!  I get so tired of watching/hearing that happen.  And, the funny thing is it usually happens to a politico that I don’t particularly care for!  I guess it’s true that some just can’t see the forest for the trees.

Surprisingly, we have a new clue word today, in “TROPIC”.  I checked the world famous ralis95 clue word database, and it ain’t there!  So, it looks like the boss-man has a little work to do.  Two of the jumbles appear to be new, with “ligut” and “phoycp” having been used some time before.  The answer letter layout was a stupendous fourteen letter jumble.  It disguised the final answer beautifully.

Nice cartoon of an outdoor gathering.  I guess it’s the grand opening of Jumble Park.  I think that every city/town should have one.  And, if I’m elected, I promise you that . . .   JKLOL!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
