Clue/Question: When the Weather Channel debuted in 1982, it – – –
Pre-Answer: Four Words (4-letters) (6-letters) (2-letters) (5-letters)
Answer: TOOK PEOPLE BY STORM
(That’s a good, old-fashioned, groaner of a pun! And, I love it! There really were a lot of people who had this channel on all day long, when it first came out. My aunt was one of them. I guess it was kind of a novelty.
All of today’s clue words are old favorites. However, five of the jumbles appear to be new. We have definitely seen “tuwoti” sometime in the past. None of them tripped me up. The answer letter layout was a stupendous seventeen letter jumble. It didn’t give anything away. I was able to see BY STORM immediately. And, with PLOKOEOTPE I was able to figure out TOOK PEOPLE.
Great cartoon of a 1980s scene. I remember buying a great Zenith color TV, with a corded remote, around that same time. Cordless remotes were not all that common until a couple of years later. Telephones were definitely corded though! Maybe this is Jeff, when he was in high school? Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

In 1980, after I graduated from college, I bought a Matsushita VHS VCR from JC Penney (on layaway, couldn’t afford it all at once). Paid $1500 for it, but the real point is that it had a corded remote. I could have gotten a cordless, but it was an extra-cost option. And I remembered our old Zenith B&W TV, with the Space Commander remote control. I figured out it worked by a knocker hitting a tuned rod, and the frequency generated changed the channel up or down, and also on-off. I knew that because I could vaguely hear it, but more importantly, I had a length of decorative chain I played with. And if I jiggled it or bounced on end on the ground, the TV would turn on or off. Doing that resulting in a close enough frequency to activate the remote receiver in the TV. Hence, my reluctance to buying something with a cordless remote. 😀
