“The way to achieve your own success is to be willing to help somebody else get it first.” — Iyanla Vanzant
(Okay. I get the Iyanla part, being an African honorific, meaning “great mother”. But, where does the Vanzant come from? She was born Rhonda Eva Harris. Was she married? Is she married? Wikipedia doesn’t bother to supply this info. But, I’m sure she’s a swell gal. And, I love the spirit of the quote. Welcome to the Cryptoquote Club! Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
Clue/Question: King Kong’s success in theaters was due to its main character, – – –
Answer: IN LARGE PART
(Excellent pun! Kong was definitely the biggest part of the movie. Well, other than the Empire State Building, that is. And boy, was he ever a character! So popular was he that they’ve remade, and ripped off, the story at least a dozen times! But the original, as cheesy as it is by today’s standards, is still the best.
No new clue words today. However, all of the jumbles came up as new. I actually had to back into “aorta” today. I just wasn’t seeing it. I had a little trouble with “diorno”, but just a little. The answer letter layout was a superior eleven letter jumble. I can see some of you guys struggling with the final answer. The phrasing of the clue/question was definitely not of the usual sort.
Great period piece cartoon again! 1933 was the year that my mom was born. Movies were such a big thing, that people would dress up to go see them. Great outfits! And, a super job on the movie poster. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Clue/Question: When Copernicus theorized that the earth went around the sun, it was – – –
Answer: REVOLUTIONARY
(And round and round we go! I think this one was a good literal figurative pun. Ol’ Nic knew the risk he was running, by proposing something that was considered heresy at the time. But, he had his act together, after years of working on his model of the universe.
No new clue words today. Three of the jumbles are coming up as new, with “soyul” having definitely been used before. The answer letter layout was a super thirteen letter jumble.
Another fine period piece cartoon. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Clue/Question: The cardiologist had performed the procedure so many times, she – – –
Answer: KNEW IT BY HEART
(A nice stinky pun. But, not too stinky. None of the clue words are new, but all of the jumbles came up as new. None were too difficult. The answer letter layout was a super thirteen letter jumble. I don’t think it gave anything away. Nice depiction of an angiogram. The heart on the monitor is very lifelike. Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
“The urge to gamble is so universal and its practice so pleasurable that I assume it must be evil.” — Heywood Broun
(This photo is actually his son, Heywood Hale Broun, a television sportscaster that I always admired. He was very intelligent, sort of like Howard Cosell, but much less annoying. I remember Heywood calling some World Series games, but mostly for the Triple Crown horse races. No offense to Howard though. He was great too. Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
Clue/Question: The comedy club had closed abruptly, which was – – –
Pre-Answer: Three Words (2-letters) (8-letters) (6-letters)
Answer: NO LAUGHING MATTER
(It really wasn’t, because Nate Bargatze is one funny dude! Like the spiky haired . . . person, I would be majorly bummed! Fine pun though! For some reason, I saw the answer immediately. I guess the phrase is heavily ingrained in my brain.
All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends. Five of the jumbles appear to be new though, with only “kiylle” having definitely been used before. The only jumble to give me any trouble was “totrah”, but I did see it after about a minute. The answer letter layout was a beautiful sixteen letter jumble. I don’t think it gave anything away.
Great cartoon of the outside of Jokesters Comedy Club, in Las Vegas! WordPress does not acknowledge the word “jokester”! They are SO strange sometimes! Jeff might go to Vegas for the “gaming”, but it looks like David goes for the shows! I’ve been to Vegas once. Didn’t gamble. Saw one show that didn’t really excite me, but I enjoyed myself. I think most of us know songs by The Letterman. And, they do do a nice show. But, it’s geared for a slightly more sedate audience. Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
Clue/Question: They hired an expert oil driller who – – –
Answer: DID WELL BY THEM
(I’m sure Ma and Pa did very well for themselves. Leasing your land for oil wells pays a whole lot better than farming. And, you’ll no longer have to wake up at the crack of dawn, and work like a dog all day. Of course, there are environmental repercussions, but that’s for the grand kids to worry about.
No new clue words today! Three of the jumbles are coming up as new, with only “dolced” having definitely been used before. The answer letter layout was an impressive thirteen letter jumble. I think the lengths of the answer spaces were my biggest hints.
Great cartoon, incorporating an iconic American couple. Possibly the most parodied work of American art. I hope Grant Wood is looking down and smiling at all the tributes. Be well and do good, friends.) —YUR
