Sunday Cryptoquote Spoiler – 06/30/19

Most women set out to try to change a man, and when they have changed him they do not like them.”   —   Marlene Dietrich

(I don’t know about “most women” trying to change their men, but I do know that the ones who do try to “change” them usually end up failing.  And, it’s kind of foolish anyway to try.  You have to accept people for who they are.  If you don’t see enough pluses, just move the heck on.  I think Marlene may have been the originator of RBFResting Bitch Face!  Of course, my daughter taught me that expression!  It’s so hard finding a photo of Ms. Dietrich smiling.  It’s always sultry, or sullen.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  BEHIND THE EIGHT-“BAWL

(A very sneaky, misdirection kind of Jumble.  I did not see this answer right away, and went on to do the Cryptoquote.  I got that no problem.  Then I logged on and started to post this spoiler, and realized that I hadn’t solved it yet!  So now, with no TV on, and my wife not yakking my ear off, I sat back down at the old kitchen table, and took a second look.  Still nothing, initially.  Because of the Clue/Question ending with “were” I figured that the first answer word was likely an action word – a verb – ending in ING.  So now, with LTADEWIHBBHE I tried make heads or tails of things.  I couldn’t come up with a relevant ING verb, so I decided to concentrate on the word in quotation marks.  Somehow, the word BAWL seemed plausible.  That led me to EIGHT, and that made me realize that the first word could NOT end in ING, because there was only one G in the answer letter layout.  That’s when I finally saw BEHIND, and completed the pun.  I did notice that there were eight babies, but I also noticed that there were only seven cribs.  Maybe some of you guys jumped right on this, and got the answer right away, but not me.  I was trying to look for a word that the guys were trying to avoid, but that did no good.  I was wondering how “The Ren & Stimpy Show” – via the name of the daycare facility on the window – came into play, but that was also no good.  A sneaky good Jumble.  I’m just glad I didn’t have to ask you guys for help.  Although, I do get MANY more comments when I have to resort to that.

Now that I’ve kept ralis95 in suspense, and probably annoyed him a bit with my rambling, we have a new clue word today in “rudely”.  It surprised the crap outta me that it wasn’t on the list, but that’s how it usually goes with “new” clue words.  They’re some of the most common words that just seemed to have slipped through the cracks over the years.  Five of the six jumbles appear to be new, with only “bloheb” having definitely been used before.  The answer letter layout was a sublime fifteen letter jumble!  Hoyt really outdid himself today.  It did not give away a thing, for me.

Fine nursery cartoon.  All the babies appear to be about the same age.  Neither of the worker ladies appear to be too stressed, at this point, but that could always change.  I love babies, but that part of my life is largely over.  My biological children have not married yet, so that could always change, and I’ll have to get back to to baby tending mode.  Gay Pride Month ends today.  I never found a way to tie it in to any of this month’s spoilers, but I think it should be acknowledged.  So, Happy Gay Pride Month to all of our LGBT readers!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
