Cryptoquote Spoiler – 06/20/19

Image result for Errol Flynn

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.”   —   Errol Flynn

(I had a heck of a time getting this one started!  I tried for BLESS, CLASS, GRASS, SMALL and THREE, with no luck.  GROSS was the last word I would have thought of.  And, with the author’s first name I tried ALLEN and WOODY.  I even considered ALLEY.  I toyed – for a minute – with the last name being SCOTT.  My only instincts that really helped me was making the N’s into I’s, and O’s into N’s, and then the Y’s into E’s.  Switching my A’s – for the Z’s – to O’s was also a big help.  When I finally saw it was Errol Flynn I felt like such a dope!  This quote is hilarious.  Errol was quite the clever, handsome devil.  I remember a television movie about his life, called “My Wicked, Wicked Ways”, in the 80s.  It was his autobiography.  Too long ago to remember if it was any good.  He definitely loved to party, and he loved the ladies though!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  SOUR GRAPES

(He shouldn’t have submitted any effing Merlot!  THAT was his problem.  Just thought I’d throw a little “Sideways” into the Jumble.  A good movie, with Paul Giamatti, Thomas Hayden Church, Virginia Madsen and Sandra Oh.  The cartoon is too contemporary to try to tie it to “The Cask of Amontillado”, a great Edgar Allen Poe story.  That’s about as far as my wine references go, folks.

It looks like Hoyt is really trying to complete the ralis95 clue word database.  Today he has given us “method”.  Another simple word that has somehow escaped being used as a Jumble clue word . . . until today.  The jumble, “tdemoh” completely stumped me, and I resorted to backing into it.  The other three came to me right away, but all four appear to be new.  The answer letter layout was a decent ten letter jumble, but even without the missing “EO” I saw the SOUR GRAPES.

Love the cartoon.  It has a nice wine cellar feel to it.  The casks of wine on the floor were a nice touch.  Maybe the wine making couple are relatives of David, or Jeff.  They are drinking a bottle of Jumble wine!  LOL!  Doubtful it’s a medium dry sherry.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
