Answer:  DRIVE MORE TRAFFIC

(Maybe not the punniest of puns, but I was able to get it fairly easily.  Somehow, I was able to see DRIVE right away.  Then MORE made sense.  And, from FRTCFIA I was able to come up with TRAFFIC.  Easier than some of the recent Sunday Jumbles, I’d say.

I was a little DISMAYed to find out that we actually have two new clue words today.  I hope ralis95 is reading his email!  Not so much with BOUNCY, as I kind of questioned myself as I was writing it.  But, how have we avoided FELINE all this time???  Not too surprisingly, all of the jumbles appear to be new.  Saw them all quickly, even though BOUNCY did give me some trepidation.  The answer letter layout was a beautiful sixteen letter jumble.  Definitely nothing obvious about it.

Fine cartoon.  A little reminiscent of previous cartoons that had billboards in them, but that’s alright.  It’s looking to me like it’s outside Chicago.  And, I’m sure the Tribune folks appreciate that.  Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend, folks.  But, don’t lose sight of what it’s all about.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I too thought BOUNCY and FELINE were words new to Jumble, at least in the last decade. I got BOUNCY right away but needed about 20 seconds to stumble into FELINE, and then solved the final answer much the same way you did. You and I, Unc, need to team up and work together if we’re going to take on the defending Chicago tourney champ, as we often hang on different puzzle elements. Teaming up would probably be frowned on, though, at least by the defending champ. He’d probably still clean our clocks.

    DRIVE on all!

I don’t know if there was an event this May, but there was one in May 2018 in Chicago, called the Jumble Symposium, which included a tournament among the dozens of symposium participants. This took some intensive Googling to find, but you mentioned it several times in May including:

Then there was a follow-up comment on your blog later I couldn’t find via Google, and I believe either David or Jeff said that they had a guy (from Schaumburg Illinois?) who had won the May 2018 event and a previous contest David and Jeff ran in Chicago. This champ was very, very good at solving new, difficult Jumble puzzles very, very quickly. I remember asking if there was a video of him solving new puzzles, and you said “no.” I’d go through your blog posts one-by-one looking for it, but that would take a while with no guarantee of success.

Oh, yeah. I remember posting that as a favor to Hoyt and Knurek. They promised to buy me a beer, or something. I’m still waiting on that. — YUR 😉

I think they just promised you an ERBE, and given the source, you took that to mean BEER. But ERBE is probably just Tribspeak for great appreciation. Actually I think now that DLH posted on your blog at some point in 2018 a link to a page, maybe a Jumble Facebook page, which featured an account of the event after the fact including a photo of the tournament winner.

Wanted to double check my answer …. seemed a bit off, but I got it! VERBAL was the hardest for me. DISMAY — finally, came quickly!

I’d love to be at a symposium…but not participate. I could help…sharpen pencils, pass out puzzles, write name tags!!!

    Take care all! LL
