Clue/Question:  Mary Shelley’s success as an author was a result of her having – – –

Image result for mary shelley and Claire Clairmont

Answer:  NOVEL IDEAS

(I wonder if she wore white makeup, with black lipstick, and had some funky piercings???  The girl was ahead of her time.  I never realized she wrote “Frankenstein” when she was only 21.  That’s pretty young for such an impressive piece of literature.  She was also quite the little homewrecker!  At age 17 she fell in love with – the married – Percy Bysshe Shelley . . . and married him a couple of years later . . . after his wife committed “suicide”.  Hmm!

The clue words are all classics.  However, all of their jumbles appear to be new.  The answer letter layout was an excellent ten letter jumble.  I thought it did a marvelous job of disguising the final answer.  I guess the big clue came from her friend’s comment about the story being “original”.  But, if I picked up on that, it must have been subliminally.

Great period piece cartoon!  Maybe the other woman is her stepsister, Claire Clairmont?  I don’t think it could have been any kind of publisher.  Not in those days.  Cool Jumble though.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

    Great stuff, Unc, and new to me. Mary Shelley was indeed ahead of her time making a mark for one so young back then. Reading about her now on Wikipedia, I think you’re right about the other character in Jeff’s cartoon being Claire Claremont who, with the great poet Lord Byron, also influenced Mary around the time of the creation of Frankenstein. The legend that fits the goth theme here is that Mary lost her virginity to the married Percy Shelley (who also should have made better choices) *in a cemetery.* BTW, the legal age of consent in Great Britain was (gasp) only 12 at that time. Now 16 there, 16-18 here depending on the state.

    Mary Shelley married Percy BYSSHE (WOW, What a great name**?) Shelley under some
    shaky circumstances…{see YUR comments}

    One of the reasons she was ahead of her time,
    in my humble opinion, was her Papa was poet
    William Godwin & MaMa was Mary Wollstonecraft (Another Monster{LOL} of a name} famed Feminist, the Author of “The Vindication of the Rights of Woman” in 1792!!
    (Sadly for daughter Mary, she died shortly after her birth) A terrible frequent occurrence
    back then…

    Her classic tale of “Frankenstein” was the topper of her “NOVEL IDEAS” written at the tender age of 21 in 1818☆☆♤s

    Mary Shelley truly left a lasting legacy.

    I’m a little surprised the #MeToo Movement hasn’t addressed the age of consent issue, David. We’re no longer an agrarian society, and life expectancy has increased substantially. I have some qualms about statutes though. I think the courts/judges need some common sense leeway when it comes to prosecution. Zero tolerance policies can be extremely unjust. — YUR

    I worked on the answer for a couple of days. I was convinced that LOVED, LIVED or something similar was in the answer. NOT. Then I finally boggled out the words and saw IDEAS. Having nowhere else to go I took the remaining letters….there it was NOVEL!!! Geesh!

    I read a lot about Mary Shelley trying to figure out where to go with the puzzle answer. It didn’t really help with the puzzle, but it was oh so interesting!!! And tragic.
