Bachelors know more about women than married men; if they didn’t, they’d be married too.”   —   H. L. Mencken

(Oh!  Somebody call the P.C. Police!  He’s stereotyping, and being dismissive of, women.  Time to burn all his works!  Stop the world.  Yer uncle wants to get off.  The final straw, for me, was when the New York Yankees, and now also the Philadelphia Flyers, decided to end the playing of Kate Smith’s rendition of “God Bless America”.  And all because she sang some other songs – a hundred friggin’ years ago – that are now being deemed “racially insensitive”.  There wasn’t even anything hateful about those songs, they were just full of the racial ignorance of the time.  Those days are long gone, and those stupid songs had been long forgotten . . . until some nonsensical numbskull decided they just had to be dredged up.  I can’t stand the stinking Yankees.  I’m no fan of the Flyers.  I think the song is jingoistic nonsense that reinforces the small-minded notion that God actually takes sides, when it comes to nations of the world.  And, Kate Smith’s voice was always way to brassy for my taste.  But, this is just going too far!  What the hell is next???  Are we going to do away with “Gone with the Wind”?  I wonder what the Vegas odds are on that!  And, will it because of the #MeToo Movement, or the way overzealous racial muckrakers???  This is Big Brother fascism at its basest.  Shame on us all, for allowing it!)   —   YUR

Pre-Answer:  Two Words  (6-letters)  (9-letters)

Answer:  FAMILY GATHERING

(And, isn’t that what the holidays are all about?  Of course they are, for me at least.  For some it’s more the holey-moley stuff, but I’m not down with all that magical thinking.  I’m more concerned with the here and now, and trying to do unto others as I’d have them do unto me.  The hereafter will just have to take care of its own damn self.

All of the clue words are as traditional as an Easter egg hunt.  Five of the jumbles appear to be new, with only “rgygog” having definitely been used before.  None of them stumped me.  The answer letter layout was a beautifully cryptic fifteen letter jumble.  It gave nothing away, in my opinion.  It was seeing the grandparents, mom, dad and all the kids that egged me on to the final answer.

Great cartoon of everything mentioned above.  The tulips were a nice spring touch.  Everything is really starting to get green around here.  It’s truly the season of rebirth, that doesn’t require any kind of leap.  Enjoy it, folks.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Farming looks mighty easy when your plow is a pencil and you’re a thousand miles from the corn field.”   —   Dwight D. Eisenhower

(My very first President!  Born in Texas, but mainly raised in Kansas.  He was actually born David Dwight, but his mother switched the order, to avoid the confusion of having two Davids in the family, with his dad being David too.  Also, his family Anglicized their last name, from the original German Eisenhauer.  I ran into a local Eisenhauer when I was working the census back in 2010, and they clued me into that little tidbit.  He tried to warn us all of the burgeoning Military-Industrial Complex, but we were a bit too slow on the uptake with that.  Now, it’s grown to the Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex, and there is pretty much no stopping it.  It has effectively taken over our country.  I wish old Ike had made a bigger issue of his warning, but at the heart of it, he was just being a good soldier.  He couldn’t help himself.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  FIRST COURSE

(“Worst Cooks in America”, maybe?  My daughter watches a lot of those shows, because she likes to cook.  I think “Worst Cooks” is mainly just for laughs.  She prefers the shows where she can actually learn something.  “Chopped”, “Beat Bobby Flay”, “The Barefoot Contessa”, “The Pioneer Woman”, and the Guy Fieri shows.  They’re not really my bag, but they make for something that we can watch together.

All of today’s clue words are familiar dishes.  Maybe not quite comfort food, but nothing too exotic.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, with “slojet” definitely having been used before.  The only one that I had to give a couple of looks to was “irice”.  The others came right away, for me.  The answer letter layout was an excellent eleven letter jumble.  Nothing obvious.  I think the line of:  “You like my appetizer!” was the big clue for me.

Great restaurant style kitchen scene cartoon.  I like how it’s clear that the middle guy burned everything, and probably the guy at the bottom too, as he’s scraping off his dish into the garbage.  Right now, it looks like the lady is going to be the only one to pass this cooking class.  Good fun!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
