Clue/Question: The hat made of matted wool fit perfectly and – – –

Answer: FELT GREAT
(A classic groaner of a stinky pun! It definitely helps if you know that felt is matted wool. But, there can be other animal furs, and even certain vegetable matter mixed in with it too. It’s a fairly versatile material. What I remember about felt, besides hats, is they use it on the bottoms of table lamps and anything heavy that you might place on furniture, to prevent them from scratching the wood. Oh, yeah! And, on floor coasters, to put under table, chair, sofa, etc. legs, to prevent scratching – mainly – wood floors!
All of today’s clue words are scratch resistant familiar old friends. But, all of the jumbles appear to be new. I didn’t struggle with any of them today though. The answer letter layout was a fine nine letter jumble. Nicely cryptic.
Fun cartoon of a hat shop. I’ve never been much into millinery. My head was just not made for hats. I even own a nice felt hat, but I never wear it. Maybe when I’m really old? I’ll only wear a toque when it is extremely cold . . . and fashion be darned! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
