Sunday Cryptoquote Spoiler – 03/31/19

The middle of the road is where the white line is – and that’s the worst place to drive.”   —   Robert Frost

(That’s why I’m a Progressive Democrat!  I do not dig the namby pamby centrists!  They might as well be Republicans.  Not that there’s anything wrong with them.  But, there are things – and times – in life where you have to choose one over the other.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Sunday Jumble Spoiler – 03/31/19

Clue/Question:   Boeing became a huge aircraft manufacturer after getting – – –

Pre-Answer:  Five Words  (3-letters)  (2-letters)  (1-letter)  (6-letters)  (5-letters)

Answer:  OFF TO A FLYING START

(A fairly challenging stinky pun of a Jumble!  I’m wondering now if the expression has its roots in manned flight.  It does make sense.  Were the Wright Brothers the only ones building planes prior to the Boeing Company?  It just seems a little strange, to me, that a company way back in 1916, and way out in Seattle, would take the lead in aviation, like they did.  I can’t imagine that Seattle was very big in 1916.  Could be my East Coast bias, but I guess that great industrialists come from all over the place.

All of today’s clue words are old favorites.  However, all of the jumbles appear to be new!  The only one to give me pause was “lofarl”.  But, I didn’t struggle long with it.  The answer letter layout was a spiffy seventeen letter jumble.  I did not find it the least bit obvious.  It took me some time to come up with FLYING, as I was first going with OFF ON A _ _ _.  But, from my remaining letters I did see START, and realized I needed to swap out one of my T’s for the N.  I’m sure that many of you saw the right answer before I did.

Great cartoon of Bill Boeing, addressing his workers.  Outside the hangar you can see a seaplane taking off from Puget Sound.  That was likely the bonus clue . . . a plane taking off.  A nicely challenging and entertaining Sunday Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
