Cryptoquote Spoiler – 03/11/19

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.”   —   John Quincy Adams

( . . . or, maybe they just get easier to deal with.  Difficulties and obstacles can be a matter of attitude.  With the right one they’re just puzzles to solve and challenges to meet.  This appears to be the first Cryptoquote from POTUS VI, son of POTUS II, at least since I’ve been posting these spoilers.  Like his dad, John Quincy Adams was a one term President.  He was a bit too erudite, and is said to have possessed the highest I.Q. – estimated at 165 – of any of the American Presidents.  He lost to Andrew Jackson, who was a war hero, and he ran a more modern, personality driven, campaign.  Adams was more old school, and refused to engage Jackson in his personal attacks.  We welcome John Quincy Adams to the Cryptoquote Club today!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 03/11/19

Visual Description:  A rite of Spring???

ENYPN  =  PENNY,  WHISS  =  SWISH,  GRACIL  =  GARLIC,  OVRYGO  =  GROOVY   —   Giving us:  PNNSWIGAIGRO

Clue/Question:  The new plant nursery was experiencing – – –

Answer:  GROWING PAINS

(I think we see this pun nearly every spring.  Or, variations on the theme.  I’m not complaining, mind you.  Just making an observation.  It’s a classic stinky pun.

All of today’s clue words came up on the ralis95 world famous clue word database, so they’re classics too.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, with “gracil” having definitely been used before.  There’s just no hiding garlic though.  Possibly the best thing on the planet!  So flavorful, and so good for you.  The answer letter layout was an admirable twelve letter jumble.  I might have played with the order of the clue words to make it a little more challenging.

Great nursery cartoon.  Ferns and fertilizer, potted plants and a trowel.  Bad backs are a bitch.  I’m so happy mine hasn’t gone out in a while.  Last year, around this time, I had bad sciatica.  Crippling!  Working on my weight, and doing the back machine at the gym, seems to be keeping it in check.  I can deal with the occasional muscular flare ups.  They just come with the territory.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
