Cryptoquote Spoiler – 03/09/19

People always ask me ‘Were you funny as a child?’  Well, no, I was an accountant.”   —   Ellen Degeneres

(Once again, I saw the author’s name right off the bat!  I really need to ignore this aspect of the puzzle, because it’s making the solving of the quote too easy.  It’s a funny quote though!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 03/09/19

Visual Description:  Definitely not Squaresville!

RAWYE  =  WEARY,  TOBUD  =  DOUBT,  COTONY  =  TYCOON,  XNEOGY  =  OXYGE  —   Giving us:  WEARDUTTONOGN

Clue/Question:  The circles built a community with public transportation so they could – – –

Answer:  GET AROUND TOWN

(Something tells me that . . . someone omitted a dash/hyphen between the A and the ROUND!  I mean, the pun still resonates, but it would be more of a classic Jumble pun with it.  This looks like one of those Jumbles where the boys were experimenting with LSD.  Purely for scientific purposes, of course.

Even though – in my heart of hearts – I knew that all of today’s clue words were familiar old friends, I still checked them out in the current version of the ralis95 clue word database.  These ones are about as familiar as they get.  Two of the jumbles came up as new, with “rawye” and “cotony” having definitely been used before.  There was nothing obvious about the answer letter layout.  It was a wonderful thirteen letter jumble.  The combination of the cartoon, the leading nature of the clue/question, and the length of the answer blanks made getting today’s answer – infinitely – as easy as pie.

Yes, the cartoon is definitely . . . out there.  I think that Jeff was inspired by one of his trips to Los Angeles, where he was very impressed with the Capitol Records Building/Tower.  It’s located in the Hollywood neighborhood, just north of Hollywood and Vine.  The building was completed in 1956, so it’s even older than yer uncle! It is an L.A. Historic-Cultural Monument.  It definitely stands out.  And, unlike a circle, my comment does have an end.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
