Clue/Question: The Toll House Inn’s Ruth Wakefield, the creator of chocolate chips, was . . .

Answer: ONE SMART COOKIE
(She is right up there with Clara Barton, Marie Curie and Rosa Parks, in my book! Of course, she is largely responsible for me being a Type II Diabetic, but that’s besides the point. And, I am working on that. My cardiologist has been telling me for a few years: you drop the weight, especially around the middle, and you’ll lower your A1C. Then, I’ll no longer need the medication, which would definitely be cool. I just checked in at a svelte 195 lbs today! And, my love handles are almost history! I probably could even be lighter, if I hadn’t added some much needed muscle mass. Other than my various age related injuries, I might be in the best shape of my life. How ’bout dat?
All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends. “Knelt” and “hairdo” are particular favorites of one David L. Hoyt. Three of the jumbles appear to be new, with “lentk” having definitely been seen before. Awesome 14-letter answer letter layout! To me, it kinda has a northern Africa feel to it. Khartoum and Cairo. I think it did a wonderful job of disguising the answer.
The cartoon is great! Once again, Jeff Knurek has expertly captured the likeness of an historic figure. Do not snicker . . . doodle, my friends! Ruth Wakefield and Fanny Farmer – actually Frank O’Connor – are my two favorite confectioners of all time. I’m fortunate that I still have all of my own teeth. Well, sort of. There are a few crowns in there. And, I am due for an implant . . . but, they ain’t cheap! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
