“The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surrounding.” — Kakuzo Okakura
(My newspaper left off the trailing “S” of surroundings. How about yours? As I look at the quote online, it seems there should be the trailing “S”. I made an educated guess on the “K”s and “Z” in the author’s name. Not being well-read, and that whole Western bias thing, I had never heard of the gentleman before. This appears to be his first quote used in the Cryptoquote, since I’ve been posting these spoilers, so I guess it’s not just me. Anyway, we welcome Mr. Kakuzo to the Cryptoquote Club. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

My paper definitely ended with SURROUNDING – period, no “S”. The “S” is included in azquotes.com and goodreads.com, but it’s probably subjective. My understanding is that Japanese doesn’t use plurals … you just have to “get it” from context or, eh, surrounding.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette left off the “S” also.
Having been in the print business(not newspaper), I’m sure all the proof readers do is make sure what is being printed is what was submitted.
Hmm. Thanks, Ben. Sounds like this must’ve come from the top! — YUR
Ahh! So Rebecca – or whoever – did this for purposes of authenticity? I wonder why she went with the Western order of his name then? Hmm. — YUR
