Sunday Cryptoquote Spoiler – 01/20/19

It is all right to hold a conversation but you should let go of it now and then.”   —   Richard Armour

(Well, a true conversation should consist of a good amount of give and take.  Otherwise, it’s just a monologue.  It’s true, some people do like to dominate a conversation.  But, that’s where interjection – not interruption – comes in.  People who get upset about being “interrupted” usually don’t realize they are being self-indulgent.  Dick Armour was a fine writer, who could be very amusing though.  I’m a little surprised that this is the first of his quotes to be used as a Cryptoquote, since I’ve been posting these spoilers.  So today, we welcome him to the Cryptoquote Club!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Sunday Jumble Spoiler – 01/20/19 (ralis95!)

Visual Description:  Open air weight-ing area.

MOOCSS  =  COSMOS,  CNCNAA  =  CANCAN,  LNGEET  =  GENTLE,  DGTIEW  =  WIDGET,  DGUTER  =  TRUDGE,  SILVEW  =  SWIVEL   —   Giving us:  OSONNGTLIGTRGSIL

Clue/Question:  California’s famous “Muscle Beach” outdoor gym started in 1934 and is – – –

Pre-Answer:  Three Words   (5-letters)  (5-letters)  (6-letters)

Answer:  STILL GOING STRONG

(Gotta love it!  It’s not such a stinky pun, as it’s a literal/figurative pun.  Some of those guys are nearly as pumped as me!  LOL!  In my dreams.  I have converted some of my flab into muscle, but at 61, and always being of the fleshy type, I doubt I’ll ever look like these guys.  But, lifting weights makes me feel good.

I put ralis95 right in today’s subject/title line because I know he doesn’t do the Sunday Jumble.  But, he does get my email notifications, so seeing his name should alert him to – not one, but two – new clue words!  Yes, both “cancan” and “widget” can be added to the world famous clue word database.  I saw “widget” right away, but hedged my bets on “cancan”.  Not because it looks like a compound word, but because it just felt a little funny, to me.  I think it deserves some kind of picture though!   All of the jumbles came up as new today.  So good work with that, Mr. Hoyt.  The 16-letter answer letter layout was also another great jumble.  It was pleasantly cryptic.

Great So-Cal cartoon, brah!  Lots of iron pumping, beautiful palm trees, the beach, and the Pacific Ocean.  And, if you look carefully, you can see the classic sinking sailboat on the horizon.  What more could one ask for from a Jumble cartoon?  Nice job, Jeff.  That’s about it, folks.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
