Answer: TOW THE LINE
(Shouldn’t this one have had quotation marks around the spaces for TOW? The actual idiom is TOE THE LINE, so you’d think that the change in spelling – aka the pun – would warrant quote marks. Did anybody’s paper, or maybe an online version, carry it with the quote marks? Maybe my paper goofed?! Regardless, it’s a good stinky pun!
They spared us any new clue words today, as they are all old reliables. Two of the jumbles came up as new, as we’ve definitely seen both “taweh” and “flamee” sometime in the past. They all came to me instantly. The answer letter layout was an admirable jumble. Nicely cryptic.
Great lake scene, water skiing cartoon. I think Jeff hid a few little fishies in the water, in front of her skis. And, of course the tow rope is very prominent in the drawing. It also looks like the name of the boat might be “Jumble”. My two experiences with water skiing did not go so well. The first time I – somehow – sliced open my big toe. Bled like a pig! And the second time, which lasted a fairly long time, resulted in a kind of a spread eagle wipe out, that made me walk funny for a few days! Hurts just remembering it. Not tough today, but still fun! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

No, no quote marks around TOW, UR. Guess the Jumble crew PERMITTED us to figure it out for ourselves! And a great pun.
I agree, TOW could have had quotation marks, and no, the online version didn’t have them there either. Although the guys might argue that they would have needed quotation marks if the answer to this cartoon and clue was “TOE” THE LINE. As Captain Edward Smith of the Titanic said, you gotta learn to GO WITH THE FLOE.
I guess your answer was better than my first effort: WET THE LION.
No quote marks on the online version from Post Star. I took two water skiing classes when I was younger. Those didn’t go well at all, had trouble getting up. I think my life vest was too bulky and my form was poor overall. Then I went to visit a friend while in college and he liked to water ski. Gave one more attempt and I was able to at least ski for about a minute. Decided that my main problem was that I leaned too far back, more suitable for a single ski. But I was on two skis and leaning too far back doesn’t work well. So went my water skiing experience. 😀
Uncle Rave, Sorry for the late response. Here’s the “TOW” THE LINE explanation…The reason why I didn’t put quotes around “TOW” in the “TOW” THE LINE puzzle is that I totally screwed up. As dumb as this will make me look, I didn’t actually know that the origin of the phrase was TOE THE LINE. I thought it was TOW THE LINE to begin with so I didn’t think it needed the quotes. Everyone is correct for sure in that it should have been shown as “TOW” THE LINE. No doubt I botched that. I read all about the expression TOE THE LINE. I really should have known that. Thanks for keeping me on my toes! Much appreciated.
Thanks for the explanation, cuz! But, don’t be so hard on yourself, brother. I do believe there was a time when I thought it was TOW THE LINE. I can’t say precisely when I learned it was TOE, but it wasn’t all that long ago! 😉
Great hearing from you!

So, I’m putting this Jumble together today. I kept coming up with words with R words and had no R. Finally got it. Hate to say it-quotes on TOW would have confused me. However, after seeing Mr. Hoyt’s post, I understand everyone’s posts about the quotes!! LL
You were in good company, LL. For a long time I did not realize that it was actually TOE THE LINE. — YUR
