Clue/Question: They built the castle on the highest point so their enemies would have an – – –

Answer: UPHILL BATTLE
(Idioms and adages both usually have a basis in the literal, and this one is a great example. Defending a hill has always been more advantageous than trying to take it. Just getting up the hill takes extra effort that puts you at a disadvantage. And, the guys on top have gravity on their side.
All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends. However, all of the jumbles appear to be new. It took me a number of looks to see “plural”, but at least I didn’t have to back into it. The answer letter layout was another fine jumble, but it couldn’t hide the fairly obvious answer.
Another superior period piece cartoon. I liked all the armor, swords, shields and spears. Instead of a full frontal assault, the guys might be better off laying siege to the castle. Maybe sneak up under the cover of darkness and smear the gate with tar, so some flaming arrows could set it ablaze. This time period was so interesting on its own, I don’t know why so many want to muck it up with wizards and dragons! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
