Cryptoquote Spoiler – 12/04/18

People like to tell tales.  If I take the rap for what they tell me, they’ll tell a lot.”   —   Walter Winchell

(A petty and nasty man, who saw both the highs and lows in his career of gossip “journalism”.  This appears to be the first Winchell quotation, since I’ve been posting these spoilers.  And, it wouldn’t bother me if it were the last.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 12/04/18

Visual Description:  Is that Big Al with Big Ben?

PXLEE  =  EXPEL,  YPOLO  =  LOOPY,  SURFEE  =  REFUSE,  GJOREG  =  JOGGER   —   Giving us:  ELLYUSOE

Clue/Question:  Ben Franklin’s response to bifocal skeptics was – – –

Answer:  YOULL SEE

(Brilliant!  A clear cut winner of a pun!  A discernible Jumble, indeed.

We even have a new clue word today, in “loopy”.  Our good friend, ralis95, can add this to his world famous clue word database.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new as well, with only “surfee” having definitely been used before.  The answer letter layout was another fine jumble.  Nothing obvious about it.  I had to read the cartoon and clue/question, and look at the answer spaces, before I saw where they were going with it.

Another great period piece cartoon.  That looks like it could be Alexander Hamilton, but it could be a number of the Founding Fathers, I suppose.  The quill pen in the inkwell and the scrolly vellum paper go well with the clothing and the hairstyles.  And, the Franklin stove in the corner was the icing on the cake.  An easy solve, but a classic Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
