Curtain Raiser

We need to reject the politics of fear! And, I think our government could use a healthy infusion of estrogen. Get out and vote tomorrow, friends! — YUR

We Need a Record Turnout, Colltalers

Climate change, immigration and asylum rights, healthcare, women’s choice, racial and sexual rights, gun control, wage and labor reform, voting rights, plus your own picks. By now, most Americans should have this down. Now let’s go voting them on Tuesday.
Before anything, billions around the world believe we’ll do the right thing. Sharing values of solidarity, independence of mind, and compassion, they’ll stand with us when we say no. And the suddenly global-relevant U.S. midterm elections can deliver just that.
The diminished importance implied on the title has nothing on the reality of these massive election, though. All 435 House seats are technically up for grabs, along 35 of the 100 Senate seats, 39 governorships, and an onslaught of measures and initiatives – pot expanding legalization, freedom of religion, and animal rights, among them – to be decided by federal, state or local communities.

Cryptoquote Spoiler – 11/05/18

The road to success and the road to failure are almost exactly the same.”   —   Colin R. Davis

(Our first quotation from the very dapper, longtime conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra.  I’ve noticed a certain fickleness to the whole success thing.  I’ve seen different people putting out the same effort, while one excels and the other just seems to kind of tread water.  There are a lot of intangibles out there, and nobody said that life was fair.  Do your best anyway.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 11/05/18

Visual Description:  Who to blame in the frame game?

AGTYN  =  TANGY,  IMTLI  =  LIMIT,  SORKEH  =  KOSHER,  NRAYCN  =  CRANNY   —   Giving us:  TAGIIKSERAN

Clue/Question:  They’d had some thefts at the bowling alley and worried the thief might – – –

Answer:  STRIKE AGAIN

(A wonderfully stinky pun!  Good thing the manager is carrying a can of Lysol!  Kill those sweaty germs, Earl!

None of today’s clue words are new.  However, all of their jumbles appear to be so.  I had some trouble coming up with “kosher”.  I had to skip it and come back to it, but I didn’t have to back into it.  One of the synonyms for “cranny” is split, so I guess it was a very appropriate clue word for this Jumble.  The answer letter layout did a fine job of disguising the final solution.  At first, I was toying with the first word ending in ING, like maybe TAKING .  But, suddenly the answer STRUCK me!

Great cartoon!  You definitely know you’re in a bowling alley, with the Charlie Sheen “Two and a Half Men” bowling shirts, the shoes, the balls and the pins.  You can see the ball return thing, and the scorer’s table.  And, one guy in the background appears to be bowling a strike.  Good stuff, Jeff.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
