Bittersweet October.  The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking, perfect pause between the opposing miseries of summer and winter.”   —   Carol Bishop Hipps

(She must be living, and a little under the radar, because I can find no bio info on her.  She is an author.  We do know that much.  But, that’s about it, folks.  I love the quote though.  If any of you have any insight on her please feel free to share.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 10/26/18

Visual Description:  The movie yer Uncle really wants to see!

TAPOD  =  ADOPT,  OSGEO  =  GOOSE,  DUGLES  =  SLUDGE,  GTORNS  =  STRONG   —   Giving us:  AOTOOSSDETRON

Clue/Question:  With the movie being so popular, the long lines – – –

Answer:  STOOD TO REASON

(Nicely challenging Jumble!  It made me think a little.  Probably because of the answer letter layout, my first inclination was STOOD ON something.  But, the words you can make out of AOSETR – oaters and orates – didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.  So, I changed ON to TO, and then AOSENR gave me a REASON to celebrate!

All of the clue words are old favorites.  Three of the jumbles appear to be new, with “dugles” having been used sometime before.  “Adopt” spells out in alphabetical order.  The answer letter layout made for a very fine jumble.  It tripped me up some.  Lots of O’s!

The cartoon shows your basic queuing for a movie nicely.  I’ve seen a few previews of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and it looks awesome!  My wife and I saw “A Star is Born” a couple of weeks ago, and I loved that.  Even made me cry a little.  Lady Gaga can act, and Bradley Cooper can sing!  But, I’m a big Queen fan!  “Bohemian Rhapsody” will bring me back to my college days.  Rami Malek makes for a great Freddy Mercury!  I wish I could go see it tomorrow, but it looks like I’ll have to wait until Monday.  Oh, well.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it.”   —   Unknown

(Sounds like it could be Twain, or Billings.  Maybe even Iaccoca.  Or, like this image say, maybe Churchill.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 11/01/18

Visual Description:  The idle wealthy.

LAGEE  =  EAGLE,  RISVU  =  VIRUS,  RIYFUP  =  PURIFY,  VACRIA  =  CAVIAR   —   Giving us:  EEVSRICVA

Clue/Question:  He liked to gamble by playing roulette and then blackjack or – – –

Answer:  VICE VERSA

(Ooh!  Bells and whistles, and bright shiny objects!  Not to mention the stench of cigar/cigarette smoke . . . and desperation!  Much stinkier than this pun, for sure.  Occasional, casual gambling can be fun, I suppose, but it can quickly become an overriding vice.  If I had that guy’s kind of money I think I could find better ways of spending it.

All old familiar clue words today.  Three of the jumbles are coming up as new, with “vacria” having definitely been used some time in the past.  The answer letter layout was a nicely cryptic jumble.  I didn’t find it to be obvious.  The V’s, and the final solution layout, made getting the answer fairly easy for me.

Great detail in Jeff’s super cartoon today!  From the blackjack table to the roulette wheel – and the craps table behind the guy – right down to the chips, and the olive and swizzle-stick in the gamblers’ cocktails.  An overall very satisfying Jumble!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Cryptoquote Spoiler – 10/25/18

There are no secrets to success.  It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”   —   Colin Powell

(I had a lot more respect for the man prior to February 5th, 2003, when he – essentially – lied to the U.N. Security Council.  The so-called satellite photo “evidence” of Saddam’s “Weapons of Mass Destruction” were grainy, 1960’s era – Cuban Missile Crisis – “quality”.  Our satellite capabilities in 2002 and 2003 were far superior to what he presented as “proof”.  And, that’s not even the half of it.  The man was much too smart to have been duped into doing this, so he must have been complicit in the deception that resulted in an illegal invasion and lengthy occupation of a sovereign nation, that resulted in so much death all around, and blew up our National Debt.  How soon we forget.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 10/25/18

Visual Description:  World Series fun facts?

USIES  =  ISSUE,  AEATB  =  ABATE,  ORHUGC  =  GROUCH,  REBLAR  =  BARREL   —   Giving us:  SSEABEGRUARL

Clue/Question:  While on a hitting streak, the batter reached first, second and third on a – – –

Answer:  REGULARBASES

(A fine stinky pun!  And, one I got last Thursday, but didn’t have the time to post!  At the time, I would have told you that I was rooting for the Dodgers.  Not because I *like* them, but because I don’t particularly like either team, so I was simply pulling for the National League.  That certainly did not get me too far, as Boston won 4 games to 1.

No new clue words this day, however three of the jumbles appear to be new.  It looks like we have seen “usies” sometime in the past.  Fine answer letter layout.  It did a nice job of disguising the answer.

Swell baseball cartoon.  I liked the coach with the handlebar mustache and little beard, and the expression on the third baseman.  It looks like Jeff was counting on the World Series coming down to the Cubs versus the Red Sox.  Well, at least he was half right.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
