Clue/Question: To become better at golf, the young golfer would need to – – –
Answer: STAY THE COURSE
(What is this? 1988?! “Stay the course.” “A thousand points of light.” “Read my lips. No new taxes.” “Ah ah. Nah gahn’ do it.” Whether it’s George H.W. Bush saying them, or Dana Carvey’s spot on impression of #41, these were once very well known lines in Americana. SNL used to always have someone who could do a very convincing, and humorous, impression of the current President. Chevy did Gerald Ford, Aykroyd did Nixon – a la flashback, Phil Hartman did a pretty good Reagan, D.C. did G.H.W.B., Darrell Hammond did a great Clinton, Will Ferrell’s Duh-bya was classic, Jay Pharoah’s Obama was good too. But, it seems they’ve outsourced Donald Trump to Alec Baldwin, which is okay, because he’s hosted the show more than anyone else. But, he’s not an actual cast member. Beck Bennett or Colin Jost should give it a shot.
We actually have a brand new clue word in “aspect”. The man, the myth, the legend, ralis95, will have to add this to his world famous clue word database. Hoyt has been great at bringing us new clue words, the last few months, hasn’t he! All of the jumbles are coming up as new today. But, the answer letter layout was the best jumble. I wasn’t seeing the answer for a few minutes. I was thinking more along the lines of GET THE SWING OF IT, but that would be more of a Sunday answer.
Fine cartoon, as usual. The guy looks a little like Harold Ramis, who wrote and directed “Caddyshack”. I really like the little details, like the curled divot and the broken tee. Maybe she should try a slightly smaller driver. That one is nearly as big as she is. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

I had trouble with this one. I broke my 10-minute-limit rule because I didn’t have the getting-nowhere feeling. I needed over six minutes to untangle ASPECT, and then another five for the final answer. Good challenging puzzle guys!
Because the golf pupil was a woman, I expected the middle word to be HER … but that left COSY and STATUE! This delayed me about a minute, until I noticed COURSE. Where would we be without puns?
Baldwin does the find job. I doubt very much that your choices could do better. I think it’s great that he comes even though he’s not a member of SNL
Baldwin does a splendid job, MJ! But, because he’s not a regular cast member the SNL writers are a little handcuffed when it comes to the most current events. As much as they might like him to be, he can’t possibly be available at every moment’s notice. Which is why I’d like to see a regular cast member take a shot at the impression. Also, it’s a matter of tradition.

Slow and steady did it for me today. Had problems seeing Asked and Aspect, but I got them at last. The letters in Aspect got me to the answer, as I figured the middle word was The. As far as a cast member playing Trump, Beck is already doing the Putin character, and Colin doesn’t do anything else other than Update. Same with Michael Che, but on rare occasions, he does a skit when they need lots of black characters, like the Family Feud skits.
Yeah. Beck is a little small to pull off a Trump anyway, Damid. I never liked how they’ve made the Weekend Update actors so exclusive to that job. It didn’t start out that way. What might be interesting, is one of the female cast members doing a Trump! With the popularity of the Melissa McCarthy doing the Sean Spicer impression, and the whole #MeToo movement, a woman doing Trump could be poetic justice. Hey, how about Leslie Jones? Female AND black! That would be a double whammy! — YUR
YUR, they did a skit some time back where Leslie was trying to pitch her being Trump, but according to the skit, Lorne Michaels shot it down. 😀
Darn, I forgot to mention they have her doing the occasional Omarosa.
Really? I guess I missed that. I really don’t watch it as religiously as I used to, Damid. I’m usually watching a rerun of Blue Bloods on Saturday (late) night. — YUR
LOL! Well, they’re both kinda scary to me. Omarosa probably more so. — YUR
