Cryptoquote Spoiler – 10/01/18

October’s poplars are blazing flaming torches lighting the way to winter.”   —   Nova S. Blair

(I figured it probably had to be Nova, as none of the other remaining – unused – letters made much sense.  I’m not familiar with her work and I could find no bio on her.  Regardless, we welcome her to the Cryptoquote Club today!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  And, a Happy 94th Birthday to former President Jimmy Carter!  Such a noble and honorable man!  God bless him.     YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 10/01/18

Visual Description:  Brisk basement blues.

FHYTE  =  HEFTY,  HOTOB  =  BOOTH,  MUNSOM  =  SUMMON,  SNIPTL  =  SPLINT   —   Giving us:  HTOOONST

Clue/Question:  They needed to replace the furnace because the one they had was – – –

Answer:  NOT SO HOT

(Cool pun!  LOL!  Downright chilly!  This was an easy Monday Jumble, to start the week off.  But, there was a lot to like about it.

All of today’s clue words are old friends.  Three of the jumbles came up as new, with “munsom” having definitely been used before.  I was able to see all of the clue words immediately this morning.  The answer letter layout was an okay jumble.  With three short words in the answer, and only one common vowel available, it was a pretty easy solve.

The cartoon is great.  Lots of fun details.  Like Ma and Pa’s breath fog, the spider web in the corner of the furnace opening, the rat lurking under the furnace, and the crack in the cinder-blocks where the rat got in.  The name on the furnace appears to be Crosswords!  Good stuff.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
