Answer: GO FOR BROKE
(I can hear some of the linguist purists out there, with their trepidations over the use of the word BROKE. The guys are playing a little loose with their use of the word, but it’s all for the sake of the pun! BROKE is a tense of BREAK, but it also means out of money. Some will, incorrectly, say that some piece of machinery is BROKE, when they should be saying that it is BROKEN. So, you can say that it BROKE, but not that it is BROKE. Because, only an individual, or group/organization, can be out of money/broke. Just one of the many reasons why English is such a difficult language.
We appear to have a brand new clue word today, in “folksy”. It is not on my latest version of the ralis95 clue word database, so our man will surely update his world famous database accordingly. All of the jumbles appear to be new as well. None of them caused me to stumble. The answer letter layout is a wonderful 10-letter jumble. It was nicely cryptic, and I feel it gave nothing away.
Super cartoon! It looks like the guy is repairing a weed-whacker trimmer, while the woman is working on something like an alarm clock. Repairing things should be our first impulse. Too many things are made difficult to repair these days, and the manufacturers encourage throwing things out, and just buying new ones. But, whatever can be fixed should be fixed. Our landfills are full of things that could have been repaired, and our landfills are filling up way too quickly! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
PS. To all of our Jewish readers out there, I hope you have an easy fast. Yom tov, my friends! — YUR
