Clue/Question: Olivia De Havilland would play Maid Marian to Errol’s Robin Hood. She was – – –

Answer: IN LIKE FLYNN
(Now THIS is a great pun! It’s both literal and figurative. Nothing stinky about it. The expression – “in like Flynn” – is said to have come about as the result of Errol Flynn’s well-known success with the ladies. He was a handsome devil, and apparently extremely charming. During my childhood, it inspired the title of a great action sequel to “Our Man Flint”, starring James Coburn. It was called “In Like Flint”. I haven’t thought of those movies in a long, long time!
All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends. Three of the jumbles are coming up as new, with “tikyt” having definitely been used in the past. David’s answer letter layout was a masterpiece. The only word it kind of gave away was IN, but that was the only possible two letter word anyway, considering the clue/question. If you’re not familiar with golden age films, and their stars, you might have struggled to come up with the answer. But, not yer Uncle!
The cartoon is great of Jack Warner! Only so so of Errol Flynn. But, the Olivia De Havilland is WAY off! Olivia is a singular beauty. A face for the ages. And, THE paragon of femininity. The woman in this cartoon looks more like a cross between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. You’re still our boy, Jeff, but you came up a little short on the great lady, who happens to still be with us, at the remarkable age of 102! Wow! God bless her. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
