Cryptoquote Spoiler – 08/04/18

(For me . . . it’s red velvet cake!  I’ve seen how people seem to go gaga over the stuff, but I just don’t get it.  To me, it’s kind of tasteless.  I’m a BIG chocolate cake guy, but I’d rather have a vanilla cake, or a lemon cake, over a red velvet cake.  It looks great, and the name makes it sound so good, but . . . meh.  Our little Emma seems to be a very popular source for these Cryptoquotes.  She has grown into quite a lovely young lady too.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 08/04/18

Clue/Question:  It took many workers to man the offshore rig.  Together, they drilled for – – –

Answer:  “CREWED“ OIL

(A clever, stinky pun.  Definitely, more of viewed/eyed pun than your average pun.  And, it wasn’t based on an old adage or saw, this time.  Maybe, one of the more original Jumbles, in a long time.

All of today’s clue words were old favorites, though I don’t think we’ve seen “dunce” in quite a while.  Three of the jumbles came up as new, with “lorenl” having definitely been used before.  The answer letter layout did not give anything away, as it was a wicked good jumble itself.  You just had to figure that the second word was going to be OIL.  And then, the quotation marks made getting CREWED that much easier.

Fine cartoon, of a very demanding, tough job.  It can be very dangerous, and is definitely not for people who don’t like to get their hands dirty.  Long days, and lonely nights.  Regardless of how you feel about fossil fuels, you have to take your – hard – hats off to these guys and gals.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
