“No pain GAIN is so certain as that which proceeds from the economical use of what you already have.” — Latin Proverb
(It’s all Greek to me, folks! Or, at least Latin, in this case. Can one of my smarter readers put this in to plain language for me? I’d much appreciate it. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

I thought it was”gain”…….made more sense to me than “pain” Hope someone comes up with explanation that makes sense
I think it is gain not pain. That would make more sense.
Oh, Uncle Rave, how I love your blogs!
However, you missed oe single letter on July 16, 2018 and it changes tthe entire meaning. Z=P and W=G, so it’s “No GAIN is so certain….”
But it doesn’t lessen my love of your skills. Puzzle on!
It’s a head-scratcher, UR, of a piece with an earlier Cryp about how sad life is if your needs perfectly match your income. These are sentiments that predate our modern, Consumer economy! Spend, folks, spend!
Thank you, MS . . . and Patricia, and Joy! (You’re as bad as me, Roy! LOL!)
I really need to work on my Quality Control!!! I “solved” the word PAIN way before PROCEEDS and PROVERB, and I guess it just didn’t dawn on me that I’d already (incorrectly) used the P! I was wondering what ECONOMICAL had to do with PAIN, but I guess my mind was made up. DOH! I will process the correction to the right word GAIN, immediately.
(And, then I have to fix Saturday’s Cryptoquote Spoiler!)

I have two guesses:
1. “Just having a lot doesn’t mean one knows what to do with it.”
or
2. “Don’t’ cry over what you don’t have, but appreciate what you do have.”
What do you think ?
You’re the best !!!!! We all love your blog for many reasons! Thanks for clearing it up.
See the corrected Cryptoquote Spoiler for 07/16/18, and read some of the comments, lwc. (Yer uncle screwed up!) — YUR
Mea culpa, UR! I made the same *lapsus calami* (slip of the pen) as you did. NO GAIN makes much more sense.
Birds of a feather . . . — YUR
Thanks for the change, unc.
The quote makes sense, now.
My 100 yr old dad always (miss)quoted the proverb as – There’s no gain so certain as the economical use of what you already have.
A good lesson to learn either way it’s said.
Tell your Dad that that works for me as well! — YUR
