Cryptoquote Spoiler – 07/03/18

Friends show their love in times of trouble, not in happiness.”   —   Euripides

(All I know about Euripides is:  Euripides pants, you buy a dis suit!  It sounds like a Marx Brothers’ quip.  Probably Chico, but I can’t be sure.  Eh.  The guy might have written a play, or two.  All I know is that this is the first time a quote of his has been used for the Cryptoquote!  At least since I’ve been posting these spoilers.  Welcome to the club, Pides!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 07/03/18

Visual Description:  Paradise moist!

CATHW  =  WATCH,  RNIDG  =  GRIND,  MYITLE  =  TIMELY,  TUONDL  =  UNTOLD   —   Giving us:  WATGRNIEYTOL

Clue/Question:  When Harry and Meghan splashed each other on their honeymoon, it was a – – –

Answer:  ROYAL WETTING

(A semi-timely pun!  It’s been under two months since their nuptuals, BUT I don’t think they’ve actually taken a honeymoon yet!  Some say Meghan wants some kind of beach getaway, but with Harry’s coloring he better bring plenty of sun-block!

All of today’s clue words are old friends, but all of their jumbles appear to be new.  I thought that “tuondl” was a great jumble.  It gave me a bit of pause, but not too much.  The answer letter layout was a nice twelve letter long jumble.  It might have led some of you to think that the first word might be WATER, as it did me, for about three seconds.  But somehow, I saw ROYAL, and then the pun doused me like a splash of cool water!

Fun cartoon.  We have the classic sinking sailboat on the horizon.  Before reading a word of the cartoon, I thought this might be just some guy meeting a mermaid, after a shipwreck.  But, the dialog clued me in, and then the clue/question finalized that they were the latest famous royals.  I still find it hard to believe that so few people seemed to know about the show “Suits”, where Meghan gained her fame.  My wife and I have been HUGE fans of the show since Day 1, in 2011.  We think it’s the best show on television.  Hopefully, because of this merger of British royalty to American starlet, people will be, or have been, binge watching the past seasons on Hulu or Amazon Prime.   Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  I know the word is supposed to be spelled “nuptials”, but I’ve always heard it pronounced nup-tu-als, or nuhp-shuhls, so I refused to correct it above.  Hey!  It’s my blog.  I do what I want!  LOL!   —   YUR
