I’m sorry. Still, sometimes I wish I had some familiar loss to tend to instead of the expectation that new ones are coming up just around the corner for me (in ref.: WC).

You are rooting for . . . Brazil, right? I’m not really the fan I was when I was a lad, so I don’t follow all that closely, until it gets down to the quarter-finals and semi-finals. It’s the same with basketball and hockey for me. So, best of luck! — YUR

Thanks. I don’t even think I’m rooting for them; there’s a huge, and justified, backlash against the stars of this team and how they’re performing, back in the old country, and I totally understand that. I even hate being hooked on this feeling of victory associated with soccer. No matter how mad I am at the country and how sports may contribute to oppression and inequality, once they step on the pitch, I’m this miserable wreck whose own happiness leans on the vagaries of fate and a group of spoiled players. It’s sick really.

Yup! I’ve been there, and I guess I’m still there. Sports is kinda the new opioid (religion) of the masses. I don’t give in to it all the way, but I’m definitely a frequent “user”. — YUR

Even for someone who’s kicked a lot of potentially life destroying habits, this one is a tough one to beat. Cheers
