Answer: MULTITUSKING

(A mammoth of a Jumble pun . . . especially for a Monday!  I bet a good number of you scratched your heads for a bit, trying to figure this one out.  Even though all of the clue words were old favorites, all of their jumbles came up as new, today.  The one that gave me the most trouble was “piatou”, but I saw “utopia” after a couple of looks.

The answer letter layout was a magnificent jumble.  Twelve letters long, and not overly obvious.  I mean, I knew that the word TUSK had to be part of the answer, just not in the punning context.  The quotation marks, and the two Us were the biggest hints for me.

And, of course the great cartoon played a massive part in solving this Jumble.  The elephants aren’t so much multitasking, as they are cooperating, but it wasn’t a huge stretch to the answer.  Also, the ears kind of suggest African elephants, who aren’t as trainable as their Indian/Asian counterparts, with the smaller ears.  But, it’s all good!  Very impressive for Paul McCartney’s birthday!  My newspaper’s “Today’s Birthdays” usually starts in the 80s or 90s, and works down . . . to whatever age they can still fit in.  But, today they started at 70, so there was no mention of Sir Paul, who turns 76 today!  Blasphemy!  LOL!  It’s going to be a hot one today, in the Northeast, so I hope everyone can stay cool.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Someone recently asked me what I thought the meaning of life is. I think, within the context of our individual circumstances, health, etc. “Be well and do good” is a great philosophy, and that’s what I answered…….I would add finding enjoyment where we can.

Thank you, Joy. I always thought my little catch phrase was a combination of poignancy, pithiness, and bordering on – the far off – fringes of profundity. LOL! I never liked “Be Good”, because it sounds kinda condescending, and connotes obeyance/obedience and conformity, which I find terribly stifling. “Be well and do good” is a simple wish for all my friends to be well in body, mind and spirit, but also to go out and bring joy and goodness to others, by relatively simple acts of kindness. It doesn’t have to be heroic grand gestures. A simple smile, and a kind word, is sometimes all it takes to make someone realize that, despite all of life’s travails, life is beautiful and definitely worth living. I think it is both contagious and reciprocal, so why be a cold and grumpy-assed sourpuss!

Thanks again, dear lady! — YUR

I couldn’t agree more, UR, you never know what someone is going through, even someone who, on the outside, seems fine…. that smile and kind word truly can make a difference, and you probably will never even know what a blessing you were, and the difference your random act of kindness made.

I agree, UR. Multitasking means a person does two or more projects at the same time. When two people work together on one project, it’s collaboration, or cooperation. But, far be it from me to call the Jumble Guys to TUSK for their use of the idiom … I easily got the POINT …

I agree whole heartedly. I too take “do good” as simple gestures that send good karma into our world.

UTOPIA would definitely be on my top 5 all-time nasty Jumble words. It’s just such a weird word in terms of letter sequence. It still gave me brief pause this time, though not like the first time I saw it years ago, when I think I threw in the towel on it. One of those words you just have to memorize for Jumble.

This final answer also gave me a little trouble, because for some reason, even though i quickly got to TUSKING, mostly from the cartoon, I wanted it to be SIMUL-TUSKING, like SIMUL-CASTING, but there’s an S missing and an extra T for that, and of course that’s not a pun, either. I got to the right answer after about 20 seconds of blankly staring at my answer fail.

    Well done guys. Great puzzle.

Well . . . maybe the elephants could be televising a concert, while simultaneously airing it over the radio, AND internet. It would definitely be a stretch for David L. Hoyt, and what a challenge THAT would present to Jeff Knurek! I might pay to see that one! Maybe they could do a bizarre Jumble series, and call it Stoner Jumbles! — YUR 🙂
