Clue/Question: Having car insurance is mandatory, which makes it a – – –
Pre-Answer: One double hyphenated word “(3-letters)-(5-letters)-(7-letters)”
Answer: “PRE–WRECK–QUISITE“
(A beautiful groaner of a pun! I am very impressed with today’s Jumble. None of today’s clue words are new, but five of the jumbles appear to be so. Hoyt has definitely used “wdorac” before. I thought all of the jumbles presented a nice challenge. No gimmes today!
The answer letter layout was an impressive 15 letter jumble. Nothing about it appears to be obvious. And, I wouldn’t be surprised if this stumped some of you, for a while. I let my daughter and her boyfriend play around with it, and he got it after a few minutes. The word “mandatory”, in the clue/question, was definitely the key.
Classic suburban family scene in today’s cartoon. I was a little surprised that Jeff didn’t take the opportunity to make the car a Jumble-Mobile. Usually, he puts a big “J” on the grill. Maybe the Jumble-Mobile is a little to high end for a teen? No biggie though. A very satisfying Sunday Jumble, any way you look at it. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

It did indeed cause problems for me. I had to work for five minutes, not great but not bad for Sunday, to find WRECK, and then I thought I had it. Only I didn’t, because I typed in PER-WRECK-QUISITE, which is close but not right. If I’d been working with pencil-in-newspaper, that would have been wrong. Because the Sunday puzzle online, mobile version, which I use, is highly dysfunctional, I thought the puzzle was incorrectly scoring me wrong and only saw my error when I hit the Solve button.
Good puzzle and cartoon!
I’m certainly late to this party, but life has me far behind again.
I got the clue words figured out semi-quickly for a Sunday. KERNEL gave me issues.
Then there was the answer. I had PRE-REQUISITE, however, I couldn’t figure out why I had that W left over. So, I was all over the place trying to find the answer. Then I had the husb look at our dear Unc’s blog for 5/20 to make sure I had not buggered up my clue letters. I had not. I told him the only answer I could come up with was PRE-REQUISITE, but had a W standing alone…he then said PRE-WREQUISITE..I heard WRECK when he said it….OY! So, so close. Great Sunday jumble.
I’m working my way through the jumbles and looking at all of our Unc’s blogs. LL
