Answer: MOTHER OF INVENTION
(On behalf of myself – and the guys, no doubt – I would like to wish all the moms out there a very Happy Mother’s Day! For all you do . . . this pun’s for you! All six of today’s clue words are familiar old friends, although all of their jumbles came up as new. They all came to me right away, but I thought it was fun seeing “notion” and “motion” in the same puzzle.
The answer letter layout was a fantastic seventeen letter long jumble. It was beautifully cryptic, as it did not give anything away. The combination of today’s holiday, cartoon’s dialog and theme, and the leading nature of the clue/question, made it a simple solve, for me. It took my daughter and her boyfriend just a few minutes to solve.
The cartoon is a really cute period piece. Maybe around 1857 – 1860, considering Tom looks to be between 10 and 13. Maybe a little older. I liked the combination of gaslight on the wall, and candlelight on the table. All the prototype gadgets on the table, and his forerunner of the telephone, nicely complete the picture. Good Mother’s Day fun! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
