How can one conceive of a one-party system in a country that has over two hundred varieties of cheese?”   —   Charles de Gaulle

(I could say the same thing about a two-party “system”!  Surprisingly, this appears to be our first Charles de Gaulle quotation.  I almost always have trouble finding the context in which many quotations were made, and this is yet another of them.  “Le grand Charles”, or “le colonel Motors” – because he proposed, in the 1930’s that the French army should  mechanize and build tanks and armored vehicles – is one of the most recognizable statesmen of the 20th Century.  If the army had taken him seriously, in the ’30s, they would have put up a much more vigorous fight against Hitler’s Panzer tank led invasion.  He was sounding the alarm, but no one was taking him seriously.  Talk about your Told you so!s  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  WHYS GUY

(Now, THIS is a pun I can really relate to!  Who is a bigger “whys” guy than yer Uncle Rave?  Where do you think yer Uncle came up with his question everything – especially authority – mantra?  It started as a young boy, who didn’t like to give in to parental pat answers.  Fortunately, for me, my mom could see that I wouldn’t buy into the usual snow job answers, that most parents rely on, and did her best to actually explain things to me.  Not every child can handle the – sometimes bitter – truth of every issue, but you’d be surprised at how much they actually can handle.  How come it seems that only kids use the questioning expression how come?  Do you remember when you last used it?  I wonder how come?

All old favorite clue words today.  Stand down, ralis95!  Three of the jumbles came up as new, with “noyhe” having been used sometime before.  The answer letter layout was another fine, non-obvious, jumble.

A likeable young family scene cartoon.  Lots of neat junk on the floor and under the bed.  Another fine Jumble effort!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
