“It does not make sense to hire smart people and then tell them what to do. We hire smart people to tell us what to do.” — Steve Jobs
(I guess that works for “knowledge workers”. Not so much for fish out of water workers, like me. I graduated from college with a degree in Liberal Arts. When I entered the world of Institutional Banking, I realized I could get by with my common sense, but I definitely required on the job training. So, yeah. I needed to be told what to do. To encourage creativity, it makes more sense, to me, to say: and then tell them what NOT to do. But, he’s the genius, and I’m just a mouthy blogger. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

Point well taken, UR. I suspect that if Steven Paul Jobs were still alive today and at the helm of Apple Corp., he might have morphed into more of a conventional top-down organization guy.
Maybe he should have said…
“We hire smart people to tell us HOW to do it.”
That’s often the biggest challenge.
John Kennedy already knew he wanted to go to the Moon, but somebody had to figure out how.
There are many things I’d like to do, now, but no clue to the first step.
Or they are hired to do what colleagues don’t want to do. It’s enslavement.
Sounds like you might have some experience in the corporate world, Micheline! — YUR
I do unclerave. Universities are exploitive milieux. My employer was happy I didn’t have a child as there would be no time for me to raise one. If I didn’t take one the bulk of the department’s work, the Chair had a fit of anger that could cause me to faint. I sustained a head injury falling backwards. I hit the back of my head. It shortened my career and may well have short-circuited my memory. The worst was the lie. No one else could grasp the essence of a subject matter as quickly as I could. Blasphemy! One triggers an illness and the illness justifies your being sidelined. I should write the book, the catch 22 of academia.
You absolutely should, Micheline! With your writing skills, I know you could crank out a commendable expose in a relatively short amount of time. And, don’t hesitate. Strike while the #TimesUp sensibilities are hot!!!

Unclerave, I should write the book.
