(“Oh, we ain’t got a barrel of money. Maybe we’re not always funny. But, we travel along, writin’ this blog. Stride with pride.” Thank you, ladies and gentlemen! I’ve got a million of them!
Hey! Guess what, kids? We have a brand new clue word today, in “LARGER”! Yes, our good friend, ralis95, can add yet another word to his world famous clue word database. How ’bout dat? LARGE has been there almost since the beginning of time, but it took eons to pop on the comparative R. Five of the jumbles appear to be new, as well, with “rulhoy” having definitely been used some time in the past. It took me a couple of looks to see “indigo” and “radish”. It’s funny because I like radishes, but when they put some on my plate, last night, with tacos carnitas, I treated them like they were something from another planet! RADISHES?! We don’t need no stinkin’ RADISHES!!! I can be one bad-ass bandito, when I want to be.
The answer letter layout was both amazing AND remarkable! A truly cryptic jumble, that makes you work for the answer. I bet, even with the quotation marks – and superfluous hyphens – that a good number of you struggled – some – to get today’s answer. GOOD! Struggle builds character! At the very least, struggle builds synapses between neurons and receptors in our noggins! And, as Martha would say: “That’s a good thing!”
The cartoon is a classic middle class family scene. Sure, the boys are standing next to each other, but there is no cheesy, overt bonus clue. The “Sister, Sister” show was one of my daughter Katrina’s favorites, when she was a kid. I used to tease her, ALL THE TIME, by calling it “Moesha”, Moesha, because there was another sitcom that starred a Black teenage girl, that was running at the same time. To this day, whenever I see Tia or Tamera, the stars of “Sister, Sister”, I’ll say to my daughter: Look, hon! It’s Moesha, Moesha! When she was a kid it always frustrated her to no end, but now that she’s an adult, she just smiles at me and says I’m a moron! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

You bet, Unc. I did struggle briefly with our new regular word LARGER and then for over five minutes with the final answer, even though I immediately got BY and recognized that we were dealing with twin words on either side of it. Usually those double-word puzzles solve faster. But even with the -ED (or DE-) help, I think SIGHED is a tough word to see.
Is SIGHED on ralis95’s list of regular words? I don’t think we’ve had it before as a regular word either. It’s the unique solution to those letters.
Two new words for my toughie list today.
Another excellent and challenging puzzle, guys!
Whine on, all.
SIGHED is definitely NOT on the ralis95 clue word database, David. But, it might be for a very good reason. I pretty sure David L. Hoyt does not use words that make it to 5 or 6 letter words by adding an S, and the same goes for words ending in ED. There are exceptions to every rule, but that would have to be Hoyt’s call. — YUR
I was very late getting to Jumble & then larger took forever to get. The answer wasn’t too difficult after I just wrote out all the double letters. Pull out the by & it came together side by side. 😂 Take care Unc.
Glad to hear it , Barbara Ann! — YUR
Got it today after puzzling over it…but only since yesterday. I finally figured the middle word was BY, nothing else made much sense. Then, since the remaining letters were all duplicated, I separated them. But did I see the answer. Oh NO! I thought SIDE BY SIDE, but I had left over letters. I started diagramming one set of the remaining letters….then SIGHED came to mind. I still wasn’t quite sure I was correct, so I came to see what my Unc had to say.
Awesome Unc. Love the baby pics. I always enjoyed Sister Sister. It was a good show.
The Guyz have sure been earning their keep. So many grand jumbles. LL
