“Mathematics is the most beautiful and most powerful creation of the human spirit.” — Stefan Banach
(Very nice. But it comes from a very anthropocentric point of view. Man discovered mathematics, more than created it. If anything, mathematics created us, and everything else in the universe. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

I think the author’s name is BANACH (with an “N”), not Barach, UR! He sounds like an important mathematician, and of course I’ve never heard of him. Thanks to Cryp for giving us a glimpse.
I think of mathematics as man’s attempt to measure the Universe and understand how it works.
Thanks, Roy! I got it right on my newspaper, and right when I set up the Tag for him. But, I whiffed at the author field! 2 for 3 is great in baseball, but not for Uncle Rave! LOL. It has been corrected. Maybe you’re the only one who noticed. 🙂 This one took a little time for me to get started. How ’bout you?
— YUR
I agree that mathematics exists on its own and we just attempt to understand it. Einstein’s theory of relativity was out there. It took a brilliant mind to see it.
And yet another day has gone by and I have had no need for calculus nor trigonometry. 😉
(But how many days have gone by with the word “powerful” in the quote?)
“Mathematics has a tendency to mean different things at different times as well as different things for different people at the same time.” Maybe there’s a bit of the chicken/egg aspect to it. — YUR
LOL! It does seem to be the popular adjective of late! — YUR 🙂
I pretty much worked from the assumption that the second two words were IS THE. Then it was unusual that the first word didn’t end in ION or ING. So, yes, there was a slight delay. POWERFUL would have been a stumbling block, but as muse noticed, it’s been on a run this week!
(The preceding remark was from me, UR … not sure why WordPress dropped my name!)
