Answer:  HEMMED AND HAWED

(A great old expression that may have eluded a few of you!  I wonder if even one of our guys has to occasionally look up some of these sayings.  Relative to a lot of us regular – hopefully – readers David and Jeff are young pups!  So many of our idioms are either old English, or have some kind of rural roots, so they are not as common place in our modern, more urban society.

None of today’s clue words are new, and only three of the jumbles came up as new.  We’ve seen “dulhed”, “sayile” and “gamead” in the past.  I’m guessing that “inward”, “mainly” and “easily” may have been the toughest for some of you to get.  Two of them because they begin with vowels.  The answer letter layout had a good number of repeating letters, so that, along with the cartoon and its dialog, made getting the answer pretty simple, for me.

The cartoon showed a nice little dress shop.  I liked the name on the door’s window:  Stitch In Time!  The bride-to-be sure hopes that every stitch will be in time!  It’s too late to bolt!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

When I saw Gamead, I knew I’d seen it before. But remembering what the real word was wasn’t that easy. Took a few tries. Tether was the worst, Huddle was the easiest.

After reading the clue, I immediately thought the answer was she ‘skirted the issue’. Nope! =) Enjoying all the comments and quips from everyone, lots of ditto’s and smiles from my end…sunny skies to all.

Maybe the guys could reprise this cartoon/theme, with different clue words, to provide the necessary answer letters for SKIRTED THE ISSUE. I think that would be a great Jumble, jenn! — YUR 🙂
