(A nice long, 13-letter answer for a Friday.  But, not a particularly challenging one.  At least, not for me.  Maybe, the idiom of covering for someone is just too common.  I don’t know.

We appear to have a new clue word today, in “coarse”.  Our good friend, ralis95, may, or may not, want to add it to his world famous clue word database.  It turns out that the jumble letters can also spell the word rosace, which is a semi-techincal architectural term.  WordPress does not acknowledge it, but there is a definition under the Merriam-Webster online dictionary.  Hmm!  Decisions, decisions!  When I didn’t find “coarse”, I had to check on its homonym, course.  It’s also not on the ralis95 clue word database, but for good reason.  Those letters also spell source!  I think Hoyt might let “coarse” stand, as a standalone, as roscae is far from being a common word.  Regardless, all of today’s jumbles are seemingly new.  The toughest one for me was “turofh”!

The answer letter layout was actually a very good jumble.  But, like I said above, I figured out the answer immediately.

The cartoon, with its dialog, made getting the answer a lot easier than having to actually paint a room yourself.  I’m not a fan of painting.  I’m too fussy.  As usual, Jeff showed a lot of attention to detail.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

COARSE torpedoed me on this puzzle. I could not get it, even backing in. I had the final answer and knew which letters went in the circles and *still* had to use HINT **three times** on the online puzzle (for the C-O-A, which told me where the S was) before I could see COARSE. Been a long time since I needed that much help on a regular word, and it is a common word. I have no problem with it being used as a regular Jumble word despite ROSACE which is much less common. That does happen sometimes; as long as alternate solutions are words not commonly used in English, I think it’s okay. COARSE is on my hard word list now, and to quote Pete, I Won’t Get Fooled Again… by that word… I hope.

    Rock on all.

I had trouble with Fourth. Not sure why. I was able to figure out Coarse. The part about room painting I don’t like is the door and window trim. Walls are easy. One room also has floor trim. That’s bad, primarily because you have to sit or lie down.

I remember Mom deciding she wanted a trim line around the top of the walls just below the ceiling in the living room. Dad had to use a 1×1 square piece of wood and draw an upper and lower line with a pencil. Then he had to fill in the space with the contrasting color (a middle brown, I think). While on a ladder. That took awhile, and it turned me off to painting at a young age.

COARSE took me a minute, as well. Why did I first see RASCOE? Much easier today …

Nothing, apparently … but it seemed like a plausible word!
