Answer:  SWEEPING REFORMS

(Ooh!  A sneaky, stinky pun!  I didn’t see it right away.  Did this one take you guys a few looks, too?

We actually have a new clue word today, in “ruffle”.  And, four of the clue words appear to be new, with “gennie” and “wordsy” having been used sometime before.  David’s answer letter layout was a spectacular jumble!  I found nothing obvious about it.  I thought the first word was going to end in ING, and then SWEEPING became fairly clear.  The SMERRFO  gave me REFORMS.

Great cartoon.  I liked the school gymnasium scene.  The bleacher seats, the backboard, the P.A. system, and the drinking fountain were all a nice touch.  There were no unnecessary bonus clues.  A very satisfying Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The final answer did take a few looks for me too. When I read the clue, I immediately thought of A CLEAN SWEEP, but there was no leading “A” and no “C” to work with. Then I did the same thing you did: pencil in -ING at the end of the first word (keeping in mind it could end the second word instead). For some reason it took me a minute to realize the letters were there for SWEEPING and realized that very likely was the first word. I didn’t immediately think of REFORMS. I had to cross letters off and unscramble the remnants. CLEAN SWEEP would have made a suitable Daily Jumble. In fact it probably has. SWEEPING REFORMS was more of a challenge to see, as a Sunday Jumble ideally will be.

    Rock on all.

Oh and i’ll note that we won’t see REFORM as a regular word in a Jumble because it could also unscramble to the equally common FORMER. A lack of practice with it is a good part of why it might not be immediately obvious after getting SWEEPING.

I got all the clue words fairly quickly, but the answer took some time. Like David, I was thinking of some word like Change or whatever, but no “C” was to be had. And the W was odd as well. Managed to solve it just before coming here to see the writeup for today; got the Sweeping first, then juggled the remaining letters. 🙂

Thank goodness I didn’t see FORMER before I saw REFORM!! I kept looking for C words in the answer too. Even had the HUSB check to make sure my words and letters matched the correct answers. I was positive I didn’t have the correct letters. So glad I did not throw in the ole towel! LL.

Wordsy- pretty sure I would have thought that was a real word if it they hadn’t listed it as the jumbled word! …Have a sunny day, everyone.
